Pilgrim Kit
 

Well after too many years of reading about Cobras, talking about Cobras, and attending Cobra related events, and with my wife's encouragement, I just jumped right in and bought an incomplete, partially assembled, imported from England, Pilgrim Sumo cobra replica. From all my research I know its not the best kit available and I dont think its the worst, but the price was right ( broke Curt Scott's first rule), the kit was close enough for me to pick up over a weekend with my truck and a borrowed trailer, and since I'm a professional mechanic I wont run into anything that scares me (I hope). :rolleyes: . I welcome ANY comments, any information and any help anyone might want to offer. It appears that there is at least one more pilgrim owner here in the US judging by the search I did of our membership (thanks Brent) who I would appreciate hearing from if he/she reads this. And of course anyone with any knowledge of these cars should chime in especially our UK members, any info would be greatly appreciated. The gelcoated fiberglass (fibreglass in the UK) is in really excellent condition and will require little work to get it ready for paint. The frame and center tunnel are galvanized to retard rust and there is already an independent rear suspension installed, which I need to identify at this point. No front suspension present just attachment points.

I have Pilgrim Sumo construction manual and the rear suspension in your car looks like the Ford Sierra version.

If you have any questions try doing a search on the website or simply post a question and you'll be inundated with helpful suggestions from the legions of Sumo owners who are club members.

They've got several suspension alternatives (jaguar, cortina/taunus, sierra, granada). If front suspension cames with fabricated A arms then your rear diferansial is sierra (w/ 4 lug nuts). If front suspension mustangII (cortina/taunus/granada) then your rear diff granada (w/ 5 lug nuts).

larryar the car is right hand drive right now although the only parts installed are the pedal box with pedals and the mount for the steering column thru the firewall. To be perfectly honest I havent decided if I will leave it that way, it wont be that much trouble to switch it around and it will surely be easier to find a steering rack for a left hand drive, although the novelty of having the car right hand drive is appealing.

I have visited the cobraclub site and have seen a few of the buildups there. The rear suspension looks just like the ones in the pictures that were added to the thread so I am guessing Seirra parts but the hubs and wheels are 5 lugs and there was some extra parts inside the car. There was no front suspension installed but there is an upper control arm that sure looks like mustang II and 2 brand new ball joints in boxes that say granada on them along with a 5 lug front hub and a spindle, no lower control arm but there is a strut rod and a place on the frame to mount the strut rod so mustang II/ pinto looks most likely for the front.

There is also a set of 4 Spax 28 position adjustable shocks which I cant figure out how to extend? No part numbers on the Spax box but the ball joints have numbers which I should be able to cross reference. I tried to attach a picture of the rear suspension and there are a few pictures in my gallery here.

Guys, I know this is an old thread, but just to let you know, Pilgrim in the UK has closed its doors and the receivers are in. They have been in business a long time and have made tons of cars. Just goes to show you the sign of economic times. I hope other kit car companies here in the U.S. can pull thru and stay in business
