Shelby GT500 Trade Scam
1 Attachment(s)
I just wanted everyone to be aware that another scam is circulating amongst us.
A guy said that he wanted to trade his dark blue 1967 GT500 for my Unique 427 Cobra. His car looked perfect and so I pursued the trade. The first blip on the radar that made me think that something was fishy was his very poor grammar. Then I started asking more and more questions and found out that even though all the photos showed the car with Washington plates on it....the car was in....SWEDEN. Or should I say he said it was in Sweden. I'm sure it wasn't even his car. Anyway, be on the lookout. I believe his name was Mats. Thanks for your time and this forum. If you have time, please look at my for sale ad. I would really like to sell this Cobra and buy a car with a top and a heater :) Thanks Link to my for sale ad: http://www.clubcobra.com/forums/show...threadid=47608 |
Them damn Swedes.

Mats is a common Swedish name. You did the right thing and thanks for the alert.

I just found his full name in my email address book. It is Mats Wilhelmsson. Too bad, it was a nice Shelby GT500 :(
|
So why don't you put a hardtop and a heater on/in your current Cobra? .......just curious.

Sounds like the same scam as the "Contemporary Cobra" in Sweden for $9,800 (US funds) including shipping that was on Ebay last month.

So why don't you put a hardtop and a heater on/in your current Cobra? .......just curious. Ernie __________________________________________________ _ I have considered doing that Ernie. I am new to the Cobra replica family and don't know the best sources yet. I like the A.P.E. hardtop. I reminds me of a Viper hardtop. I like the double hump design. I have been talking to the owner of A.P.E. about fitting one to a Unique. Do you know of any other good sources of aftermarket hardtops? I talked with Alan Weaver at Unique and he does not usually recommend a hardtop once a car is completed. Due to the hassles of fitting, scratching the paint etc. He suggested a soft top. I really appreciate all the help. So far (exept for the guy in Sweden) everyone has been very helpful. I can't wait until Spring so I can attend some Cobra events. The Cobra is my dream car. The only reason I am trying to sell mine is that since I purchased it my financial situation has changed quite a bit and I don't like having that much tied up in a car that for me is a toy. The car is perfect. I would like to sell it and buy a cheaper Shelby GT350 or GT500 clone. Since it is a clone, it could be my daily driver in Northern Indiana. Anyway, long answer to your question. Thanks for the reply. |
You might want Brent or Ron to put this on as a "sticky" with this forum or on the Consumer Forum.

Looks like a Scam for sure. Interesting to note that Mr. Mats Wilhelmsson also has a 1967 dark blue Mustang GTA, see link below. I suspect he my have now done some mods in an attempt to "create" a Faux Shelby GT 500. However, the motor he has in it looks to be a 289. Have to watch out for these people.

More on Mr. Mats Wilhelmsson. Apparently he operates a Swedish Shelby Registry. In it he has listed a 1969 GT 500, but no 1967. This story is getting more interesting. He also has a listing for a 1967 GT 500 "project" dated in January 2003. His 1969 GT 500 has a lot of awards listed, but all from the US in various states?????
