Dash Accent Tubes - What Covering?
Hi Guys:
I just got a pair of Dashboard Accent Tubes, these are the two angled tubes that run from the bottom center of the dash to the tunnel of the trannie. I have been doing some research on what to do with them in terms of color and covering. Some pictures show them covered in what appears to be either a leather or viynal and then passing thru the carpet via gromets. I would be interested in knowing two things from you all... 1) What were the 427 Cobra's tubes covered with? 2) What have you covered yours with (ie: paint, powdercoat, leather, viynal, etc) I have a number of old laptop carry bags that are just taking up space. I was figuring on cutting out some of the black leather and wrapping the tubes with that and a good contact cement. If I cut it right, I may be able to get and have a stitched seam (from the bag) towards the back of the tube. Again, all ears... |
I may be mistaken, but believe those are support tubes, not accent tubes. They were most likely painted black on the originals (powder coating was not generally used at the time). If authenticity is your goal, covering would not be the way to go, painting or powder coating would be the most appropriate.

Either leave the dash brace tubes semi-gloss black, or cover with glued dash-vinyl material.
No grommets at the carpet... either cut relief holes or stitch edging around the relief. |
I have a Unique but I look the look of what ERA has done on the support tubes like the originals have. What are the approximate tube diameter, spacing and angle of the support tubes?
|
Tube Outside Diameter is .75" and angle is 77 Degrees. You can order the tubes from ERA perhaps. They are ready to go with the angle support welded and drilled and polished for coating or painting.
