Are Mcleod/Lakewood Block Plates The Same Thickness?
I have a Lakewood block plate for a blowproof bellhousing...it's 1/8" thick. Could I use a Mcleod bellhousing as well?
|
Sure, the purpose of the plate is to prevent the back of the block from being damaged in a flywheel or clutch failure. The additional thickness if any is incidental.

The Lakewood back plate also contains the lower mounting nuts for the starter.
It may work with the McCleod but not sure. RD |
I think my McLeod is 1/4"
If you went w/ a McLeod bellhousing, why wouldn't you use the backing plate that comes with it? |
Because I'm lazy...there's already a Lakewood block plate on the engine...and of course to change it, I would have to remove the flywheel. I don't like laying under the car on a concrete floor when it's 30 degrees outside for any longer than I have to.
If in fact the Mcleod block plate is thicker, then I wouldn't be able to use it...I'd say they rely on that to get the right depth for the transmission mounting. |
