Completion price
What was the completed cost of your Cobra?
|
Try Again........
Hey Art:
I'm afraid $50,000 is a little on the low side. By the time I'm done and get the engine, have it installed, and get it titled, it will be a little over $65,000. Not bad when my budget was to stay under "the price of a new 'Vette". My wife is gonna' kill me. Guys with Kirkhams will be even higher.%/ |
I'm right at $39K and change and about 98% done,Still need to get roll bar either chromed or Jet Coated. I think I put a lot of extras in like tubular front suspension with coil overs all the way around. Granada brakes,Tremec 5 speed,MSD ign.,Heater,Radio
with 10 CD unit,Jet coated headers and side pipes and custom dash. I want to build another one but the coupe is looking real good to me Hmmmmm??? |
I'm looking at breaking the $40 barrier by a little but I'm doing a lot of the work myself & going small block(obviously) I started with $35 in mind but with a few upgrades that number quickly changed. It's not how much you spend but rather if you are happy with the final product.

He's Right
Pirate:
I agree with you, it's not how much you spend, it's how satisfied you are with the car once it's done. Remember: The best Cobra/replica out there is the one you have the keys to, the rest are just eye candy. |
60k in the late 80's
better start a new poll...
|
Unique Deluxe pallet...$25,000
New 302/345 hp..............2,900 New Tremec 3550............1,200 Paint and prep.................4,500 Tires and wheels..............2,300 Everything Else................3,000 On the ground and running for just a hair under 39,000. No regrets. Paint is perfect, runs great. Even the wife loves it. |
I voted $50,000 because you do not have a higher category.
|
$10k, Watch for the upcoming "this Olde Cobra" series. I'll show you how.

two thoughts
First, I never dared even consider completion price, and all I did was build a new motor - there was the initial 5K or so for the PAW block and go-fast parts. I think if I'd totaled up all the "oh, I guess I need that too" and the nickel-and-dime autozone parts and new tools needed to button it up, I'd be seriously depressed, and have a hard time even asking my (very understanding) wife for permission to take on another project (like coilovers, bigger brakes, FI upgrade, etc.).
Which is my second point - if you've done any of the work on your car yourself, are you ever really done? That list of mine above is only off the top of my head - there's also the accusump, maybe a swap to a toploader, maybe even a swap to a (gasp!) big block. We need to to a MasterCard commercial: New Halibrand replica wheels: $LOTS New Cobra logo tire valve covers: $less New push-button starter: $a reasonable amount Package of band-aids and a tube of neosporin for raw knuckles: $not much Spare change for the swear jar after banging/pinching/whacking a finger/hand/foot: $more than you'd think . . . Looking in your garage every night to see that car one more time before you go to bed: priceless |
My completion price is not fair to you guys. I finished my car
car in 1982, all work performed by myself for $18,000. I have added mirror polished stainless steel panels to the engine compart, wifes idea. She gave me stainless steel fuel lines and tall stacks for the Webers for my birthday. Five years ago the car was painted by pro. This December the top loader was exchanged with a T-56 six speed. I love it. My last project will be to panel the trunk with aluminum. Just need the time. The expences so far $25,000.00 Don |
Don...that works out to be $46,125 in 2003 dollars (adjusted for inflation), so you are right back on the chart! :D
|
40,315 for my 392 tremec backdraft. Cermaic coating, oil cooler included. After Jan 1 price increase would make it 43,315 glad I bought it before the price increase!!!!
