Auto(Cobra )stylists wanted
OK, you guys are moaning over the "New" Cobra's looks. Here's the deal, come up with a design that you can all like, and agree on. I have a block of foam, I'll whittle a plug and build a body or two.Maybe drive it up to the "Glass Palace" and sho Willy himself. Let's keep it 90" wheelbase so it will fit on existing replica chassis to make things simple.

Many years ago, in one of the car enthusiasts magazines, a reader had pencil-sketched an "updated" Cobra. As I remember, it was the Cobra "look" that we all know and love, but updated enough to be different. Seems that it was a little "ballooned up", but it looked great!!!

Cobra Drawings
Hello Mr. Bruce,
Long time… Is every thing OK? Well, if the challenge is for real, I’m willing to try… If not, I’m going to try it the same way… I just like drawing cars, Cobras and a good challenge! :) B.T.W. I really would like to see some drawings or ideas for the 2004 Cobra, from all of you whom are willing to try… Best Regards from Portugal, Ernesto Freitas :) |
Hi Ernesto, yes I am serious. I'll build the plug and prototype bodys. Lets see those designs folks.

90"? There may be a serious reason Ford chose to go 100". Crushability in an accident? Better road handling/control? I hope it wasn't something totally lame like "creature comfort"!

Ernie - If you plan to sell a bunch of ugly two seat sportscars to people who think that they're buying a "Cobra", I'm sure that creature comforts would be high on the priority lists of those types of buyers.

Guys, I'm suggesting the 90" wheelbase to run the project a little faster. Plus it mght give some of the existing mfgs another outlet for their chassis. Heck, you could have interchangable bodys. But we're getting ahead of ourselves, this is an exersise to see what other folks ideas would be.

The 90" WB is what was on the original AC Aces. Not ideal for "driveability". A clean sheet design should dump the 'requirement' for a 90" WB. Let's give the car some modicum of comfort with some added legroom, 'specially for us tall guys over 6'4" !!! Ford's GT has a 100" WB, I think.
