Harrison Expansion tank
Any of you FIA guys out there using the Harrison Tank for authentic looks? If so shoot me some pics on proper location, how you mounted it. Also, I am confused on the hose setup, the bottom hose looks too small? Any help would be appreciated!

Look at "Engine Left" in my gallery. The hoses do not need to be large, it is just for coolant expansion. It is mounted on the front pedestal where the leaves were originally mounted, using stainless straps and rubber cushions. If you need a specific view, let me know. |

Thanks for the help, couple questions. My engine is a 302, currently the top hose goes to my expansion tank with a hose going to the puke tank. The lower hose goes to the radiator. I have no heater , F.Y.I. Also, there is a small hose lower of the t-stat that just makes a L and goes back to the engine.
Your main top hose goes to the radiator, which is different I am changing my EFI from the current setup to something similar to the Edelbrock 950, looks like a carb setup. Was going to install the Harrison setup, to look more period correct with the small block. Look at my pics of current engine setup. I'm confused at the hose setup I guess. Any clues? |

Here's the setup on my car, which has a heater. Thermostat Housing: Large Hose to top of radiator Small Hose to Heater Core Water Pump: Large Hose (bottom) from bottom of radiator Small Hose (upper fitting) return from Heater Core Small Hose (lower fitting) to bottom of Harrison Tank Harrison Tank: Bottom Hose to water pump (lower small fitting) Top Hose (on tank body) to top of radiator Pressure Relief Hose (on filler neck) to puke tank or atmosphere Radiator: Top Large Hose from Thermostat Housing Top Small Hose from Harrison Tank Bottom Large Hose to bottom of Water Pump Heater Core: Supply from Thermostat Housing Return to Water Pump (upper small fitting) Hope that helps. |

You don't have a heater so the hookup is similar to what Greg and I have. Except you will need to: 1) cap the upper small fitting of the water pump (the one that currently has the short U hose). 2) connect the lower small fitting of the water pump (the one that has the short U hose) to the bottom of the expansion tank. 3) connect the top fitting of the expansion tank (not the overflow) to the top of the radiator (you may need to add a fitting to the radiator). 4) connect the large coolant return line directly to the top of the radiator. 5) Feed the overflow at the cap on the expansion tank to a catch can or run the line down through the frame fails onto the road. Your current setup is different because it passes the large coolant line through the expansion tank. Greg - hope you got the chance to put some miles on it before it got too cold. |

Thanks for detailing that one. Yes, I put a few hundred miles on, even when it was too cold. I still need to get the car aligned and sort out a few other small items. Are you going to Steve's meeting on Saturday? If I had the car aligned I'd probably take it, but it looks awful cold in the forecast. I looked at your car again in the gallery, beautiful. Greg |
Thanks for the detailed information! The only thing I don't know is if my radiator has the extra fitting on the right side for the Harrison Tank. I could see yours in the pictures you posted but I have a piece of aluminum ( trim only ) that I may have to move just to be able to see it. Is this typical in most radiators possibly just capped or will I have to tap in a line?
***UPDATE***Part of my confusion is the radiator is reversed from you guys due to our manuf. wanting it this way. My top is on the right yours is on the left. I found a insert, just on the other side! So I am set! I found a Unique that is the same setup! Going to do some mods this Winter. 1. New 4 port headers/sidepipes ( ceramic coated ) 2. New induction system thru Quality Roadsters ( pending completion of the system ) 3. Installation of the Harrison Tank Oh, where did you buy the vinyl/rubber straps under the alum. ones? I bought my tank as a complete kit from ERA, so the rubber strips came along.... |
I bought mine through a source from either Unique or ERA forget.
