Cobra 289 scale model
Does anyone know were can I find a 1/24, 1/25 or 1/18 scale model of the Cobra 289 ?
It doesn’t matter if it’s a plastic kit or a metal model just as long as it’s a 289 model, not a 427. B.T.W. : I know there are the EXOTO models, but they are very expensive models, and I’m looking for a lower priced one :) Thanks for any help. Best Regards from Portugal, Ernesto Freitas |
Great question, I was about to ask it myself. Tamiya makes great models, but I dont think they make a Cobra.

I know!
The EXOTO models are superb, but USD 169,95 it’s a very high price… Take a look at it at: http://www01.exoto.com/Cashier/index....asp&Model1=89 Best regards from Portugal, Ernesto Freitas ;) |
Ernesto, do those models come already assembled? God they are really nice!

Check out ebay, im sure you will find one on there. AMT, Revell & Frog all made 1/24 plastic kits. The Frog kit is quite rare , it even had decals inside to make into the John Willment cobra. Im pretty sure the 289 has only been built in 1/18 by Exoto.

AMT offered the first 1/25th scale 289 Cobra models (plastic kits), and it has been re-issued several times over the years, including under the new AMT/Ertl brand. It's a slab-side car that offers decent detail (but is a semi-difficult build).
If you are looking for an FIA, check out www.scalecoachworks.com. They make a resin conversion kit that you combine with a few parts from the Revell/Monogram 427 S/C kit. To my knowledge, the diecast companies have yet to make a 289FIA car in diecast, but I know Exoto has plans for one in the future. Russ |
Hey Russ..... something is wrong with the link you posted.

Weird! It works when you directly type in scalecoachworks.com, but not when you click on the link. Let's try this one:

Hey Jerry,
How did you order yours from them? Did you just call them up? mark |
Mark:
We purchased it at a local car show from a vendor. A friend gave us an original model he bought in 1965, but never built. Here is contact info from the box: The Ertl Company PO Box 500 Dyersville, Iowa 52040-0500 1 800 553 4886 Good luck.... Jerry2 |

Have an Ertl model here at home. Came in one colour plastic and I just painted it up. Must be unusual as I think it is nearly 1:18 scale. Purchased at a Saturday market. Never seen any since.

I've never seen a plastic model kit of 289 Cobra done in any scale larger than 1/25th, so you might have a real treasure there.
Ernesto: Here are several links on Ebay to the AMT/Ertl 1/25th scale 289 Cobra kits. There are several different versions with different boxes and molded in different colors, but inside they are all the same kit: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...&category=2583 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...&category=2583 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...&category=2583 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...&category=2583 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...&category=1190 Have fun!
