Stubborn Tranny Update
IT'S IN!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOOHOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Turns out I was just being way too cautious. I guess that was a good thing...better to be cautious than to tear stuff up... I pulled the clutch assembly and flywheel off....did some measuring and comparing to other components. Then with the help of a buddy, we put the tranny up on two jacks...one for the front and one for the rear. With everything still off the motor, we wheeled the tranny forward and slid it into the pilot bearing to check fitment. It fit great. I then took a measurement from the crank flange to the mounting flange on the tranny. I compared that measurement to a measurement of the bellhousing height. It jived. Next, I bolted the flywheel on, installed the clutch and pressure plate....and left the bellhousing off. We then wheeled the tranny forward again and slid it inside the clutch and pilot bearing. I took the measurement I had and checked it again...same measurement, and the input bearing retainer was about 1/8" away from the clutch hub. Good. Next, we put the clutch fork in the bellhousing, and bolted the bellhousing on. Wheeled the tranny forward again...and slid it in. Again, it got stuck about 1/4" out....about the thickness of the input bearing retainer. Decided since nothing was holding it up, take a few bolts and start running it up. Worked like a charm. Got it tight against the bellhousing, and turned the engine over. Everything worked fine. I am so happy. I was out of town this weekend, and I worried ab out that stupid thing the whole time. It was just a case of caution overbearing experience. I wanna thank everyone for their input again...Great help as always. |

I told you.

Yeah, I should have listened...I'm just more cautious and anal than most though. I can just imagine pulling the wrench a little and breaking off a tranny ear. I think I would puke instantly.
