Baby seat

Okay, On one of the forums, I saw a picture of a childrens car seat that was mounted between the buckets behind the gearshift. I have an 18 month old daughter that needs one of these. Does anyone know where this was or whose car it is in.

Wouldnt you pull someone over for doing this? Seems tempting, but I think it may put you one step above Steve Irwin.

I don't see any problem as long as it is securely mounted. I take my 2yr old fairly often and have thought about getting a second booster seat, but it won't fit between the high back buckets. For now she rides in her car seat in the passenger side bucket.

By the way, she loves it and will ask to go for a ride in the car.

So putting a baby seat in the Cobra is not illegal?

Double Venom 01-16-2004 04:38 PM

Why would it be illegal?
DV...retired, but not forgotten! ;)

I thought kids had to be facing backwards till a certain age, then you can spin 'em around after they get to a certain size but they are not allowed in the front seat at all. Maybe if there is no back seat you're OK??

I figure as long as they buckled in safely, they ARE safe. Far safer than on a motorcycle and that is not illegal either.

Both of my kids have fallen asleep at 70 on the highway- go figure!

The seat is made by Brian Alvares. He posts as "B + L FFR 1686" on FFCobra, in case you want to look up any of his posts on the discussion of the seat build. I found this picture in the 2003 Archives.

P.S.
The top is one of mine.

CRZN427, That's the one. Thanks! For all of those that posted in regards to legality: I believe that in the state of Missouri the child has to face the rear until they are 20#. My daughter is a little over 23#. There is really one question I need to answer to make sure I am legal. Will the "Patrol" accept the seat permanently mounted in this manner. The state law is very general and states; "Missouri law requires the operator and front seat occupants of all passenger vehicles to wear a properly adjusted and fastened seat belt. A child at least four years of age, but less than 16 years of age, must wear a properly adjusted and fastened seat belt when occupying any position of any motor vehicle. Children under four years of age must be protected by a child passenger restraint system (child safety seat) when transported in any motor vehicle other than a public carrier for hire." Judging by the wording of the law, I don't believe that I am in violation to mount it in this manner.

How about mounting an infant seat? That picture looks like a toddlers seat. My wife and I are expecting a son in mid-March. By July/August....:D Yes, with ear protection.
