Shelby Series1
Can someone tell me what is the story with the Series 1? I have yet to see on on the street. Not a bad looking car...why are they not selling?
|
Becuase..
..they don't sell them no more!
Supposed to be a run of "500" cars, Brent Fenimore says 249 were built. Over weight, over budget and behind schedule. The cars were almost three years behind original delivery promise. When Shelby/Venture realized they were losing money on every car, they raised the price. Even tried to raise the price on cars already ordered..got real ugly! SAI was sued by dealers who were asked to reduce the "commision" they had agreed to for the sales of the cars. The program changed from a dealer sales program to a "factory direct" system. Still the car did not capture the hearts and more importantly, the pocketbooks of the public. A promising product that was never brought to completion. And now on to South Africa.. Rick:confused: |
There is a Series 1 on television in a "Dr. Pepper" commercial; Reba McIntyre is acting and singing in the commercial as well!!

Reba and LeAnn Rimes!:)

I ran one at the local dragstrip in Nov. I sorta felt bad slamming a real CS product with my phony homemade replica but not too bad. I couldn't believe how slow it was. It ran 13.40s-50s at 104ish. I didn't know they were that slow! I never got to speak with the owner. I got it on video but don't have a clue how you put video clips onto the web. I think they look pretty cool (better than the pre-Buzz show car) but looks aren't everything. Too bad CS didn't put some real hp in them. Does anyone know why he didn't?
|
Yes. I DO.
TURK |
...classified info?
|
....Didn't Shelby offer a Turbo, or Supercharger "upgrade" to those that wanted more HP? I know some aftermarket companies did, but I thought Shelby did as well.
It is a great looking car........just needed more vvveruuuum! Now if Buzz could fit the "new Cobra's" engine in the Series1 body, we may have a winner! |
I am curious...
....(not yellow) about what has happened to the remaining Series 1 chassis and engines? I know when SAI/Venture split that Venture was left with the remaining inventory (so I have been told) but I know SAI had ALL 500 Olds engines on hand and that there supposedly close to 300 chassis built so subtract 249 cars delivered and that still leaves a bunch of parts floating around someplace.
All crap about the Series 1 aside, I would think Venture would want to divest itself of this "asset" and generate some cash. Perhaps someone else would take over, possibly rebody the remaining chassis or offer "genuine" Series 1 replicas? I should think if this stuff can be bought cheap enough it would be possible to offer them at a price point that would allow them to sell and generate a modest profit. Rick:confused: |
