Goodyear Racing Tires
Jamo or anyone with info,
I am thiking of changing wheels and tires on my car. Going to 15" wheels with Goodyear raised letter racing tires. I think I read somewhere that they were being reproduced again but in China?????? and there were some tire defects or problems of some sort. What are you guys or Kirkham and SAI using for tires and are you using street or rain tires? Tom S. |

Bay Area, California...across the bay from China Town, but that's about it. They actually list "Cobra Tires"...look for the "B" listings...rain treads.;) |
Goodyear is making them here in the good ole USA. They where being made off shores but due to, I beleive, quality issues the manufacturing of the tires was brought home. Check with Roger Krause. He can set you up with a set.

If I were you I wouldn't do it.
They are expensive, they ride really hard and lumpy when they are cold, they don't offer that much more traction than current performance street offerings, they do not last long, and they are illegal. |
I bought a set of vintage blue streaks from krauss racing,I was expecting smaller letters, like the ones I thought I have seen in pics,{Ricklakes fia for instance} am I nuts or do they make smaller letters now ? Tim

Like Jamo, I have the GoodYear Cobra tires from Roiger Kraus, except mine are slicks for the track. The letters are not raised, but painted on (quite poorly I might add). They stick like bubble gum when heated up, and LOOK GREAT!

Hey Pat!
What are you using now? Have you found a stickier tire in a 15 that will fill the wheel wells? I agree that the ride is harsh, especially when cold but the damn things stick. I was sold on the Kruse Cobra tire after using the slicks. Cheers, Pete |
Cala, where the he!! have you been?
Pat's getting old. |
Hi Pete! Where have you been? I haven't found anything I like better than the GY's...it's just that everyone else is using them now...:(

Pat
I've been thinking about Krause's Avons. Neat looking tyre. |
Pat and Jamo,
Been spending too much time working! Recruiting, paper and grant writing has been using up far too much of my time. I've had too little time to devote to the real important stuff and I miss it. Seems to me that at my age I ought to be able to take my feet off the pedals once in a while! I'm thinking of skipping out over the 7th and 8th for 2 days at Laguna Seca, if I can get the exhaust straightened out so that I can pass sound (with the Mustang 347 stroker). Any ideas/suggestions, wild ass guesses? Cheers, Pete |
I don't need to tell you that they are strict at Laguna Seca about sound. If I were you, I'd bit the bullet and put on some Dynaflos and know that your trip won't be screwed up.
I'm busy as well. Looks like this summer we might have these knuckleheads (Pat, Turk, U2) back on the road for cruising. Be ready. BTW, U2 said they are replacing the Camaros with new GTOs...I think a return trip to Beale is in order, don't you?:3DSMILE: |
JAMO IS RIGHT ON ABOUT LAGUNA SECA. I RAN MY COBRA THERE FOR 4 LAPS AND HAD TO PUT IT BACK ON THE TRAILER. THAT WAS A 600 MILE TOW, NO REFUND ON TRACK TIME ETC. I GOT 8 LAPS WITH MY GT350 THE FOLLOWING YEAR. THE PROBLEM THERE WAS A COMBO OF EXHAUST AND THE WEBERS. I DONT THINK A STOCK VIPER CAN PASS THE SOUND LIMIT.
