What manifold for 408 and why?

Was wondering what those with a 408 stroker are running for a manifold and why? Also what size carb. Any replies greatly appreciated.

manifold

I'm using an Edelbrock air-gap RPM manifold to try and get the best all arround performance.

I'm running a polished Vic. Jr. I have some close up shots in my gallery. If I'm not mistaken, the Air Gap intake sits a bit taller. I've got an inch or so clearance between the air cleaner and the scoop. My only performance reference is my original stock-stroke Windsor (also a pic in the gallery). The difference is amazing.

Performer RPM. Would use a Victor Jnr, 'cept I don't have the under-hood clearance to fit one.

The better low-down torque from the dual-plane performer rpm does make for excellent driveability, at the expense of some top end HP.

Edlebrock 850cfm carb. Could probably get away with a 750cfm unit as well.

Vic Jr with my 425W....Demon Mighty Demon 750 on the carb....carb's too small...I'm running 88's and 98's in it right now, and it's really not rich enough for comfort sake.

Your question all depends on how your motor is designed. Low end torque, mid-range or top end performer. My 418 stroker was built as a track motor with gobs of mid range. I have a dual pattern cam with .572 on the intake and .576 on the exhaust. Heads are Edelbrock Victor Jr. with a Victor Jr. manifold topped with an 850 Holley. 750 Holleylost too much HP at top end.

If your motor is to be a cruiser with mild to moderate cam profile designed with low end power, stick with a dual plane manifold and a 750 cfm carb with vacuum secondaries.

Trick Flow Track Heat 351. What's a carb? ;)

PSB,

A carb is that rectangularish thing with 4 holes on top of the intake manifold that costs about $4000 less than EFI:D :D :D
