Holley carb problem

I have a Holley carb problem. Car has been sitting for about 3 weeks. Go to start it for first time and as the electric fuel pump pressures up I see gas everywhere, take off the air cleaner and gas is pouring out of primary side vent looking thing circled in the picture, and I mean a LOT of gas. So I took the float bowl off. Everything looked OK to me. Put it back together without changing anything. Stated it up, no more problem. Now I'm worried, because if it were to do that again and not get noticed in time,,,,FIRE!!!

Your float was probably stuck in the open position, or, less likely, a piece of dirt was caught in the needle and seat area. Make sure your float is free, and not filling up with gas. They occasionally leak, get filled with gas, and won't float. You probably would have noticed that, though.

I'll second the stuck float.

My problem is, if that float stuck once, it'll do it again. I even wrapped on the bowl with a hammer thinking I could jar it loose, without any luck. I don't think 3 weeks calls for having to use that gas stabilizer in the fuel.

It happened to me a few months ago.

Almost new Holley 800 CFM Double Pumper, car driven regularly, running great, and one day I start it and soon gas is pouring out of the vent. The float was ok, but the needle and seat were stuck open. Unstuck it, and it has never occurred since.
