Smog Question
Hello, I am new to this board and am new to the Cobra scene. Since I live in the great car-hating state of California, I thought I should ask a few questions about the cobras being smog legal before I get too far into the research of buying a kit. Now the current law in CA is that if a car is built before '73, it is exempt from smog checks. How does this work with a kit car? I'm sure that if I run a late-model ford fuel injected motor, I will have to run the cats and have it smog checked every-other year. However, I would rather have a carbed crate motor (small block), so would I be exempt from smog? Thanks for the help.

Iwannacobra,
Do a search on "SB100". That will tell you what you want to know and how to get it done. It is possible to have a Cobra replica be smog exempt. |
Essentially... 500 component cars a year (off all makes) are allowed to be registered SMOG EXEMPT if they resemble a smog exempt car. That is, a 1956 mercedes replia needs 1956 mercedes smog devices, 1966 Cobra replica needs 1966 smog devices.
