Canadian cobra owners...
Now that I have purchased my cobra kit from B&B I have to find out all about shipping it to Canada. I have done some research on this forum so I know it has to be an unassembled kit, which it is, and that it should be shipped as car parts not a kit car. But I need info on the specific steps to get the proper documentation for importing. What time frame am I looking at.
I may pick it up my self so do I just show up at the border or do I need paperwork taken care of before hand. I asked B&B about shipment but their shipper does not want to cross the border. Can anyone recommend a reasonable priced shipper in case I go that route? The kit is destined for Newfoundland but I could possibly pick it up in New Brunswick or Ontario if necessary. Thanks for any help you can provide. |
Check out maritimecobras.com or .ca who are a NB based operation and ship across the border. They have some info on their web site. The other guy is Bob Wheaton at cobramotorsports.ca in Welland Ont.
Good Luck Andrew |
From what I understand, this can be a bit difficult depending on which border crossing, who is working that day, etc. If possible, I would talk to someone at Customs, at the border crossing where you want to import the car, I mean car parts. Do not refer to it as a car or you will have major problems. It must come into Canada as car parts since it will not meet federal standards, no air bags, no impact bumpers, all that stuff.
Don't bother calling Ottawa. I tried that and was told that there were no kit cars in Canada. The fellow I talked to wanted me to give him names of companies that were involved in making or distributing kit cars so that he could have them shut down. What a twit! As stated above, Bob Wheaton knows how to do this as he has imported several FFR kits. I bought a Canadian car, partly to avoid having to deal with Canadian Customs. Good luck, Wayne |
Cory,
In our club www.upstatecobras.com We have a few people from up north. One new member Mike March (AKA wheel spin) is also getting a B&B and shipping it to Canada. He might be able to help you:) Greg |
