Shelby Racing Jackets On Ebay - $ Sheesh $

Ok... last time I looked these jackets were just over $9,000 and still rising...

computerworks 02-12-2004 01:10 PM

...not surprised.

These are hardcore collectibles, i.e., museum stuff.

You would not wear one of these on cruise night. :p

The blue team jacket alone is up in that high multi-k$ price range.

snakeeyes 02-12-2004 02:05 PM

C'mon now...

...there are THREE jackets included in the auction. That's only, what, $3,330.00 apiece...:3DSMILE:

RedBarchetta 02-12-2004 04:26 PM

For the price those (used) jackets are going for, one could upgrade the top-end to Inglese/Hilborn EFI and a really, really nice coat of fresh paint. Amazing {shakes head}......

Ron,
How in the world does a guy verify something like that? I assume they aren't signed, serielized, etc?

DV...can't wait for your biography!

A letter from the original owner would do it.

At that level of the ionosphere of pricing, this is no different than buying a pencil sketch or a water color for 10k... it's a blue chip collectible bought for appreciation.

I'll stick to my replica....

Who sells the blue colored replica jackets?

Dirtrich 02-12-2004 09:14 PM

I think the white jacket with the blue stripes is really cool. I was blown away at first thinking the auction was for one jacket but it doesn't seem so high for three. Of course the reserve still hasn't been met.

I think I'd pay an extra hundred bucks or so to get CS to sign it, perhaps on the inside somewhere. Maybe it would help verify the authenticity?

Spending big money like that on a jacket is definately a passionate choice. The price is relative to what you or anyone else is willing to pay, certainly not the actual value of the item. The jackets are way out of my league but I have paid over 100 bucks for rare Hotwheels Cobra's that could be found in stores for a dollar or two.:o

I have an exact replica jacket, minus the oil and grease stains that I bought about 3 years ago and I believe I got it from Tony Branda. Very nice and made of the same material and from the same cuttings as the originals.

Ron :)

Jackets

Some wealthy loyal Cobra Guy will buy the ones on Ebay now and in 10 years the will trade for 50% more. A good investment for the well heeled.

Brand also used to sell a spot on replica of the short sleeved team shirts. I got a couple of them in 1996. Pretty neat to wear to car events....especially Cobra events. My boy and I used to wear ours when ever we went out in the Cobra to a show or cruise-in. Along with a white ball cap with the Cobra emblem on it. Matching pair we were. Adding a pair of white levis made it all work. We used to get asked if we were actually part of the team.

Only thing I'd warn about is that the shirts are not very color fast, so don't wash hot. Probably best to dry clean.

As for the auction .. it's still not met the reserve - HOLY COW!

tyfaim 02-14-2004 06:19 PM

great

Thanks a bunch guy's!

CSX 4027 02-14-2004 08:47 PM

Hummm

23 minutes left and the price has stayed 10 bucks short of 10g's for quite a while with the reserve not met.
Could it be shilled so the seller gets the last bidder to go over the reserve?

Rick Parker 02-14-2004 09:11 PM

I guess everyone came to their senses and realized $3333.33 per coat was a little spendy????

If $9990 can't buy 'em, I wonder what the reseeve was?%/

SCOBRAC 02-14-2004 09:40 PM

I stand by my previous contention that many of you, anyone who bid on this stuff and other CS items, autographs, key chains (that retailed in 1964 for $1.95) that sell for $100. Have lost your friggin minds. The bid I saw was 9.9k and the reserve had yet to be met. Likely it's a joke. If that's what it is fine. But if you are the guy who wins this stuff I really feel for you. Go wipe down your CSX car with a chamoix and take a pill. Take the whole bottle. At least that way your heirs might get to do something you never do. Take that car out and bury the speedo.

Get a life. Go make something happen.

Michael - collectibles and art are not about what the cost was to make the item, or its value or uselfulness.

Would this situation be analogous to buying a used 1966 beat-up British/American sports car with a tired V8 engine in the mid '70's for say...$3000???**) **)

Bill Wells 02-15-2004 08:02 AM

clearly shill bidding to get it to $9990 and i bet dollars to donuts that ten grand was the magic reserve amount !! and gee, the shills just didnt want to go that extra ten bucks and then become a buyer ! and no one else jumped in at this bargain opportunity !!! yep, i bet $10k was the reserve. LOL> bill
