Time to ask a dumb question about the 427 S/C?
Ok, we all know the technical specs of the Cobra 427 S/C, size, weight, HP, transmission exec...what about the installed equipment? I know the 427 S/C didn't have A/C, but what about a heater? What else did the interior have or not have?

Power windows, power seats, day/night mirror, vanity mirror

S/C
Brian,
The COBRA S/C came about as full COMPETITION COBRAs and were coverted after they didn't sell very well, to the SemiComp variant, because of rumored rule changes and the advent of mid-engine cars had them uncompetitive. That said, not one item of luxury (per 1965 era) was to be had. Most of the trim type upholstery, carpet, stock seats, glovebox, ashtray, spare wheel tray, bumper/overriders, standard mirrors, steering wheel center trim, and several other items were not included to eliminate weight. grumpy |
AC/DC alternators, FuzzBall Radar, Blue neon underchassis cruise lights, compass cruise control, keyless entry, electric top, Lithium Ion battery...

Thanks Grumpy
Thanks for you informative response grumpy. I am aware of the S/C origin as you mentioned, which is why I ask the question about weather it did come with a heater or not. I know when the L88 Corvette was released, that it was minus a heater core, as it was a factory racecar. Do you know if the 427 S/C was the same way, or did it get installed with the other nicety’s that you mentioned in order to help bluster sales?
Thanks again. |
Brian...
The S/C variant was merely a way to dispose of unsold Comp cars. There was no marketing effort to increase sales... there was a finite number of cars that had to be liquidated. Comps (and as such, S/Cs) had no heater or defroster, nor did they have the provisions for one to be added. Street cars had the slotted demister vents across the dash top... S/Cs did not even have these slots cut in the body. The floor was carpeted, but the doors and rear bulkhead were simply covered in glued-down vinyl. |
Thanks
Thanks computerworks, that is what I was looking for. Thanks so much. So I guess the Street 427 had a basic demister and heater, but the S/C did not.

Brian,
This site compares the 427 S/C, 427 Roadster and the AC289...if nothing else it is an interesting read. Enjoy. http://users.pipeline.com.au/bryanw/...g_an_authe.htm -John |
