Best Street Tires

I'm looking for the best (traction) steet tires I can put on 15's that are still driveable and safe.

A very well discussed topic! If you are looking for straight line then one of the drag radials would be the best bet. Problem is they are not good in the wet and don't last long and the handling on a Cobra has not really been established. If you want something that will work in the wet, I would go with the Avid s/t. If you don't care about the tire hunting and picking up every rock in the world, Hoosier t/d. Once again, no wet traction. If you, and your insurance company can live with it, not to mention the local law enforcement, the big letter goodyears from Roger Krause (and others) look great. They are a full tread but are not DOT appoved.

15" tires are a major compromise in the sizes we need them.

I use Mickey Thompson Sportsman Pro 28x12.5tires. A 1.5-6 60ft time without a smoky burnout, strong sidewall & and excellent high speed road feel. They look good too.

MAXRPM:
Do those Mickey Thompsons require a tube? or are they tubeless?
Do you have them all around or just on the rears?

Well, M/T reccomends a tube. I don't like using tubes and these tires have been on the car, tubeless, since 2001. Rears only. I don' t really find myself having to air up to rec. pressure very often. I have used other soft compound tires & while some others work like a racing slick they left alot to be desired in their lifespan and road stability. I built my cobra with the primary intent of dragracing it. I'm not sure M/T S-Pros are the best bet for high speed cornering but for pure street acceleration/dragstrip action and general highway driving they seem to be the best comprimise. I am the biggest limiting factor to my cars cornering capabilities, not my tires....cluck-cluck:p
