Black Friday

Just got a call from Intercity Transfer's driver to schedule delivery of my ERA 377 Tuesday AM.

According to CA DMV's website SB-100's No. 500 was assigned Friday. I can't bear the idea of waiting until next January to register my car.
So....What's the smart play to be able to use and insure my new car?
try to register as a 1992 ERA, a 1966 Ford as it is registered in Pennsylvania or ???

A few weeks ago I went to DMV to try and get some information and actually spoke with a supervisor that was very cooperative and said he would try to help me through the red tape when I bought a car. I think he may be able to issue a 90 day temporary permit and even indicated that it's possible to renew those a couple of times. He is going to retire at years end, so maybe he can pull me through until the next 500 numbers are up for grabs.

I suspect that it may be difficult to purchase insurance without permanent registration. Anyone know if the insurance companys have specific registration requirements?

Any ideas or suggestions other than to park it until January will be appreciated.

Hoppy:

Most of the collectible cars that I own are not registered with the DMV (will never be) and I have no trouble in obtaining insurance for any of them. My agent is well aware of the fact, too.

Which insurance company have you been using? Are you happy with their service, rates, restrictions etc? Have you had any claims with them? Are your cars insured on an agreed upon value?
Thanks for the advice.
