Backdraft At Tcc Meet
Heyall you guy's who were at the texas gathering, what do you think of the cars Back draft brought up? I know you all drive diff. varieties of cobras , so what do ya think???

I didn't go this year to the Austin meet but I have looked at the Backdraft car over very well and I think they are a great value for the money and they are engineered very well. The people I know that own them have only great things to say about their Cobras'. Wheather it was the driver, the car or a combination of both the Backdraft car at Run and Gun this year handled exceptionally well at all the events. Clois |

I'm with Clois on this. I saw the Backdraft cars at last year's TCC meet and thought that the overall car looked very good. Since you asked, "What do you think?", I will tell you. There were some technical details that did not look right to me. The primary question in my mind was the appearance and performance of the MacPherson strut suspension versus the race proven unequal A-arms that every one else uses. I deciding factor in my mind would be at the Run and Gun competition. Since the car distinguished itself in that competition, I guess I'll have to get used to the look of the strut. Paul |
I'd spent over 18 months researching the market as to the replicas on the market. I looked at them from about every angle I could think of. Backdraft was the last name left on my list. Hopefully by the end of this year I'll be giving Boudy the call he wants to hear. Still trying to decide the horsepower, but that's 1 great thing about the BDR's - about anything will fit, except a T56, so there is no rush there.

A word of advise from someone who has had both a small block and a big block in his Cobra. Go with a 351/383 stroker. Reasons: Easier maintainence. easier and cheaper access to parts (new and used), Equal horsepower with better handling.
Don't get me wrong I love my 428 CJ, but if I had it to do over again.....I would go back with a small block. Lots of problems are eliminated with a small block more problems are incurred with a big block. I will be glad to provide examples if you like. Clois |

You pose a very important comment for someone who has had both small block and bigblocks. Why do you say that a 351W in base form with a four barrel is less or greater in temperment than a 390/428FE with a four barrel. They both have approximately the same basic electrics, the same carburetion and tuning features and so on as to almost identical features. Barring the 100 lbs difference in the nose, and the tire wear on a FE, don't compare the torque/HP. Apples n Apples! I drive both, 'n don't see any difference other than beautiful BB sound, torque, and power range. grumpy |

The wife and I spent a lot of time looking over the BDRs at this year's meeting. The fit and finish of the car rates and A+. While I agree the technical aspects of the car may rate with some of the others out there I think it would be a great driver. The one two I look over at the meet were probably on the more basic side when it came to the interior they were very clean and finished out well. With the price of the car what it is I would have to think long and hard about not buying one. I just wished Boudy had been in business when I placed my order for the Lone Star. I think I would have missed the pleasure of the build but it would have been nice to drive the car last weekend instead of pulling someone else's on a trailer. Mark |
