Clutch arm and cable question
hey guys,
am using a mech clutch cable provided by SV and a Mccloud bell housing and clutch arm i got from ford motorsports. cable fits the bellhousing fine but the ball on the clutch arm end of the cable is too small for the hole in the clutch arm. it won't hook in. i really hate to pull the tremec back out and replace the arm, is there another cable i can get or is there some type of washer arrangement that i need to get. any comments appreciated... i'm gettin close to firing this muther up!!! outlaw |
I think I would rig something before I would pull the tranny and change the arm....if it's a FMS clutch fork, then a FMS cable should work....Jegs has them really cheap.....
If you don't want to go that route, I would just take a washer that the end of the cable won't go through.....then take a dremel and cut a little notch in it so you can slide it over the cable....then just sit that on the other side of the clutch fork so the cable won't back through. |

brent,
thanks for the reply, you're kinda thinking like me, i really don't wanna pull the tranny, but would prefer the cable fit properly. i have concerns with a new cable about the other end fitting the SV clutch arm, which works really good. i may temporarily "washer it" cause its all coming back apart anyway for paint. just another pain in the a$$, as i'm sure you understand. outlaw |
Yep....it seems like you get everything fabbed up and working just long enough to enjoy your work.....then you know you have to take it all back apart again. Oh well....goes with the territory I guess.

brent,
tried the number, not valid per jegs, outlaw |
Yeah, I think you grabbed it before I edited the post.....I typed it in and left a couple numbers off....check up above again.

They also have the cable and a fork for $62.....it doesn't have the adjustable quadrant, but it's $30 cheaper....you could always sell the fork to someone on here that needs one. The FFR guys would probably need one.

BTW brent,
you got your radiator in and everything since you're running it, did you use the lower SV mount? there "ain't" much space to drill through the lip of the lower mount and catch the radiator supports, especially if you have the radiator spaced with some rubber, what did you do? outlaw |
Let's see....I think that's the first thing I installed. I did use their lower mount. I managed to just use a thin piece of foam for the radiator to sit on....then just drilled a small hole and "washered it" :) ....it all fit fine. I can go get some pictures for you if you think it would help.
I think I put the radiator on the outside first....so you know where to drill the hole....know what I mean? The little radiator flange lips should go between the lips on the radiator support....but to get the holes right, I sat the radiator so that the radiator lip sat on the outside....that way I would have a good way of drilling the hole and getting the position right. I think I just used a drill the size of the radiator holes....it all worked fine. If none of that made sense, just yell. :) |
brent,
i replied last night but AOL dial up dumped on me again. i had a nice long reply and a request, course i've forgotten it all by now but basically i was requesting pics of your upper and lower radiator mount installation. there doesn't seem to be much room to "catch" the radiator lip on the lower SV supplied radiator mount "channel". just interested as to how "close" to the edge you had to get. outlaw |
I'll see if I can get in there close enough. I'm not happy with the way the upper support mounts, although it's installed. I'll probably change it later. I'll get those pics here in a few minutes.

brent,
thanks for the pics, there is more edge distance than i imagined there would be. i thought i would get my aluminum top radiator mount back today but the guy bailed on me again. i'm in san fran next week so now i gotta wait a week. also my AN fittings were supposed to show today from speedway, 2nd day air and they didn't show either. sometimes planning the weekend just isn't worth it. thanks again for taking the time for the pics. outlaw |
