LOOK: I.D. this Spring Fling '03 Cobra and paint color
In looking through pics of the 2003 Spring Fling I've come across this picture:
http://a0.cpimg.com/image/C6/CC/3042...-028001E0-.jpg Can someone please: 1. Identify who is the owner of the car? 2. Assist me in obtaining the name of the paint color as well as the brand of paint and paint code? I think it is a SPF but not sure of the year of manufacture. Getting ready to paint the Cobra and my painter recently prepared some test panels of Guardsman Blue using PPG paint codes I located and it doesn't look quite like this car. Thanks! No one knows?!?!?

Hi Drew
%/ I would say it's a Guardsman Blue. I am in the final stages of organising paint and will paint my car in Guardsman blue. I saw the colour at the Run N Gun last year on a car. I have the PPG code for the colour. Will email it to you if needed. My email kni-time@bigpond.com SPF paint their cars in three blues. Portofino blue, Royal blue and Guardsman blue. Check their site here. Cheers Bernie |
Drew,
Check your PM for the info. Ross |

Don't need to know any of the owners details but is the colour the Guardsman Blue. Just curious  Cheers :3DSMILE: Bernie |
Blue SPF
The blue SPF car in your picture belongs to Jim Binder of St. Clair Shores, MI. I'll check with him to see if he can provide any details on the paint. (I'm pretty sure it was a stock SPF paint).

Bernie,
Yes, the color is the original Guardsman Blue. Superformance calls it Galaxy Blue. Ross |

Thanks guys - particularly Ross! I've been able to connect with the owner and we are confirming if his color codes match the Guardsman Blue PPG code #12832 that I already have test painted on some panels.
Yes, I know this is a Guardsman Blue color but if you start researching colors you will find that many people say that they have "Guardsman" blue when in fact they don't really know what they have painted on their car. For example, I've seen the color inconsistencies of "Guardsman" range from a very light blue (similar to Viking Blue) all the way to the opposite side of the blue spectrum to a dark blue (similar to Royal Blue). So, I didn't want to put words in anyones mouth and wanted to see what came back. Guess what? The color is apparently "Galaxy" Blue, but perhaps this is only SPF's name for Guardsman. If anyone can supply the paint codes to SPF "GALAXY" Blue that would be great! Then we can confirm if it matches PPG Guardsman #12832. This is the color I want, but we're having a hard time replicating the blue in the picture above on our test panels. Our "Guardsman" blue color is turning out similar to "Viking" blue. |
Drew,
The color code for Superformance Galaxy Blue is 1964 PPG/Deltron 2000 DBC-12832H. Yes, this is the same code as the Guardsman Blue that was used on the original Shelby Cobras. The reason Superformance call it Galaxy Blue was they already had a color that they were offering on their cars that they called Guardsman Blue. Here are the paint codes for the Wimbledon White, 1964 PPG 8378 (acrylic enamel). Ross |

:3DSMILE: Thanks for the information on the colour there. The SPF importers here in Australia should be able to assist with the Galaxy blue colour. I have the full code for Guardsman in PPG. When in LA I went across to Costa Mesa to SPF and took a look at the many Cobras there. Dennis took me right through their factory but they didn't have a Guardsman Blue car (Galaxy blue) Cobra there at the time. %/ Rob Great picture there. When I get across in 2005 to DVSF you may have this as a drive. If you are over here after May, I will have my car painted similiar to this with a light yellow stripe across the both guards as an addition. Will kee3p the stickers/decals on the guards etc. Will update my photos then. Cheers Bernie |
