Help! Ford 8.8 differential cover plate

		Gents,
I am looking for a part number or an identification of any sort for this rear differential cover plate. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. The differential is a Ford 8.8. My understanding is the differential was used in several different cars with different rear covers. I have asked the local Ford parts guy and have had no luck. I believe the cover comes out of a Lincoln, but don't know which one. Many thanks in advance. Any help would be greatly appreciated. David :) :) :) |

David, it kind of looks like the rear out of a T-Bird super coupe. I bought one in 1989 and it looked pretty close to what you have.

David, some of the FFR guys are running TBird 8.8 inch diffs in their cars (want me to post the question for you on ffrcobra? :D) . Looks like the tag is bolted to the housing in your pic. I have to think you could do a 'net search or a more helpful dealer could help you out.

 TC,
I guess I should have been more clear--I didn't take the photos, a friend of mine did and he forwarded me the pics. I haven't been able to get back ahold of him to find out what the tags say. I will keep trying though. I would love for an FFR guy to answer my question. There are some REALLY smart FFR guys out there who I am sure know way more than I do. David:) :) :) |

 David,
I do not know what rear housing that is. It is odd that it only has one forward mount. However, JBL makes a rear cover for 8.8's that has carrier bearing supports as well as a rear mount. (Specific to the JBL chassis, but can be used in other applications.) You can see it here. Rear Cover |

 Richard,
I am mostly interested in the rear cover and what application it came from. Thank you very much for responding. David |

I'll jack up the wife's T-bird tomorrow after work and see if it's a match.

 DH,
	Many, many thanks. David:) :) :) |

In fact, if you're still up, I'll go out and do it right now.

I just checked our '97 T-bird w/a 4.6. It's not the same. Both the cover and the housing are different. Sorry.

 DH,
Many thanks. I have been searching the web and I think I better got to bed now...I can't believe it is this hard to find. David:) :) :) |

K bros, might be out of one of the FoMoCo suvs, they have independant rears. The single front mount is throwing every one off. Might also be from an Australian Falcon? Dr H, you have any more info on the Watts link for your cover? Might save me from reinventing the wheel. thanks.

Mr Bruce beat me to it, I'm thinking the same thing, one of Fords mid sized SUV's.... it would help to have th casting number or the tag information though to confirm...............

David, this is from JEGS, we use it for our 400 plus torque toys. Can't postively ID the carrier but I think the cover is about the same?
I really like JBL's. Richard you've been holding out on us! http://www.jegs.com/photos/397M4033G1.jpg This one is the "stock" SVO cover, part # M-4033-G1 http://www.performanceparts.ford.com.../M4033G1_a.jpg Hope this is what you are looking for ? Ed "DV" Combs...I've seen that carrier before - single front mount- but for the life of me I can't remember where! |

 David,
That center section looks like it is out of a newer Expedition with IRS. I just looked under a '04 Explorer here at the shop and the center section is different, but the earlier IRS Explorers may have that style rear end as well. I does not look like the passenger car center section (T-bird, Cobra Mustang, Mk VIII Lincoln) --Mike |

We do not have a standard watts link for this cover. There are way too many variations in geometry to make a standard unit. The rear mount is designed to accept the loads of one. It would quite easy for you to design up the linkage to suit your chassis and fit the center pivot to the mount on the rear cover. |
