Everyone here missed out on a Pantera buy of the year last night.... $22,700 for a 99.99% rust free example..........

Bill S.

PS: I've driven various flavors of the Vantage, beautiful driving car, rich leather interior, stunning lines, and plenty of power.....Is it worth 60K plus, not in my book...................Uneless of course your using your cars to compensate for something else................

...there is NO such thing as a 99.99% rust free Pantera....they had at LEAST 10% rust built in at the factory! The early cars had no drains in the rockers.....after a good rain you could hear the water sloshing in the body!

I cringe every time I hear someone say that a car is "rust free"....some years ago we did a resto on a 65 Mustang coupe that was sold new and had lived in Las Vegas for its' entire life...Vegas, dry, right? The car had perforations on the inner lower door panels (on the hard to fix textured steel area) because the car had all that fine desert dust in the doors and when it rained once a year, the dust got wet and stayed wet for some time, corroding the untreated steel.

Cars are not "rust free" they are "low rust"!

Ok, a low rust pantera...A great deal still just the same...Compared to the local pantera for sale here in NJ that is now 80% rust free, compared to when he first purchased it 10 years ago when it was only 60% rust free......Plus, he wants $15,000 for it just the way it sits, and will most likely find a buyer.............

Rick:

The same thing can be said about the '55-'57 T-Birds. In a humid, damp climate you could watch the panels corrode.

Aston Martin. Compensate?

How would you classify one who drives this?

How do you guys do it?

Do you monitor all activities on E-Bay, or just the car listings?
How do you catch all the SCAM Listings?

Do you do that manually or do you have a program that helps you pinpoint the weird listings.
Gosh, there must be thousands of listings there.

Can you help me with a few motorcycle ads I am monitoring? What to look for. It is all so confusing. I hate to send someone money and loose it all, thinking it was a legit listing.

Geez, I think this would be a great subject for a faq...share your knowledge/experience with everyone!

Maybe you could get Computerworks to add it to the list?

Cute car. But I think the guy who parked it there can't read...

..not to mention that the 55-57 Birds had panel fits that looked like they were done at the vocational department of the state school for the blind!

The bodies were built by Budd Corp (at a contract price) and trucked across town to the assembly plant. The lousy fit was only helped (:D ) by the handling....

All in all a car with a reputation that exceeds reality.

I have no doubt that there are things that Ebay experts could teach us that would be a valuable lesson here. But I think for the most part, it's the old saying. "If it looks too good to be true..." Or wait...maybe the saying is "There's a sucker born every minute..." :D

I wonder if those who truly pass off fraud ever get prosecuted, or do they just get kicked off Ebay, only to pop up under another user name.

A FAQ on buying and selling on Ebay is not an easy task, as every item, and every seller is different. For starters, I suggest clicking here on how to buy on Ebay , or here on how to sell on Ebay . Most of it is common sense...

Sincerely,

Bill S.

clayfoushee 03-15-2004 06:20 PM

Klayfish,

The names they use are stolen ebay acct numbers from legit. ebay users, usually with spotless records. Perhaps thousands of these accounts were compromised when those people responded to a fraudulent e-mail that appeared to be from ebay asking them to verify their accounts by providing passwords and other financial info. When they did that, their accounts were hijacked, e-mail addresses changed, and worse.

It's virtually impossible to catch these guys because they use different IP addresses all the time and are usually outside the U.S.

mrmustang 03-16-2004 04:10 AM

It looks so legit that many people fell (or still fall) for it. However, if you fill in all of what they ask for, not only do you open yourself up to Ebay fraud, but you open yourself up to theft of your identity.

See the example of an email I got this morning from these scammers below (coding removed)
