Aluminum Hood liner source
Hello everybody. I am looking for a 48" x 36" sheet of .025 aluminum to line the underside of my Cobra's hood. I am hoping to find a source in Southern California but I am willing to have it shipped if need be. Any leads? Thanks, Tom.

I stopped by Hi-Tech in Tempe AZ in 98 . They were talking about getting the hood ,doors and trunk drop formed.It sounded like a great idea.They were currantly using a alluminum liner under the hood.Too bad they went out of bussiness.They were a serious contender for my dream car.

I'm having it checked out for you, and me actually. I work at a very large non-ferrous scrap metal company. The yard guys are checking to see if we have any half or full sheets. What kind of finish are you looking for, polished or satin? Are you sure you want .025, as thats pretty thin stuff? I should know something this morning about what they find and I will post it for you. We don't hve any ability to cut the material in a clean/neat manner so you may have to settle for something not exactily to size, but if we got it, it will be very reasonable priced. Not really the kind of business we are set up for, but my ERA could use a hood liner as well, so maybe I can assert some influence even though my area of responsibility is High Temp Alloys and Stainless Steel. |
Tom, try Bill and Marge at Motorsports International. They are in El Cajon, IIRC, and have access to all kinds of Cobra pieces, including a lot of aluminum stuff. 619-390-9080.

Hi guys. Just to let you know I took Paul's advise and called Irv over at Burbank Metal Supply. I went over there today and he had exactly what I was looking for. Real nice guy and he only charge $32.00 for a 48"x45" sheet of .025 paneling. I want a very thin piece so I can ' Bow it" under the underside flange. I'll let you know how it works out. If I can get it under the flange, and once installed, the thickness of the panel will not be detectable. Thanks for all your advise. Tom (ERA 675 in process).

Tom, I had my hood metal morphised by Ron Radall in CT, the process actually sprays alum on hood when done it looks like real aluminum actually it is real aluminum you have to keep it polished or it will tarnish but it's a lot more than $32.00 if it dosn't work out Ron is a good second option!

Aluminum Hood Liner
I bought the aluminum sheet to line my hood at Builder's Square. I don't think it cost more than $25.00. Probably Lowe's and Home Depot (or any larger hardware/home improvement store) would have it, too.

This is another picture of my seamless aluminum plating. All of the hood we plate, we plate after they have been painted. Our process will not effect the paint in anyway.

This is a ERA hood that I aluminum plated for COBERA from Texas. Tom this is not a sheet of aluminum but a plating process we do here that is seamless and takes the shape of the hood, if you notice the scoop and hood on the era are one piece and there are no edges or seams on our plating and because its aluminum we can add some nice effects to it like the turnings.
