Wild Worlld of Wheels-wives- advice needed
 

I am heading down to the WOW expo here in St. Louis later today. My wife thought it would be "fun" to go with me. Uh-Oh, do you guys think I should expose her to this aka cost factor all at once, or should I ease her into the reality of the project a little more slowly.
She has endured a coupe of restorations on an a MG TD and a big Healy but I'm still wary. For those of you who have done the build, whaddya think?

Now is the time you gotta be a MAN, 'slinger. Show no fear whatsoever - Lord knows they can sense it - and pull her into it all the way.

And - do not back down. Not an inch. Be sensitive, but absolute in your resolve. She will gaze up at you with admiration and awe.

A few years back, my wife went with me to the Knotts show in SoCal. She wasn't too excited about Cobras but went along anyway. After an hour or so of looking at Cobras, she noticed a really nice dark green one that was being cleaned by a woman. The two of them struck up a conversation, next thing I know my wife is asking all kinds of questions and getting back very positive answers. That was it, she was hooked. The next thing she said to me was "can we paint our Cobra dark green?". My answer "any colour you want dear".

Try to get her involved in the process, life will be a lot easier that way, at least it worked for me.

By the way, our Cobra is dark green with pearl white strips. :LOL:

Cobra Widows

You got to be sure, not to make Cobra Widows out of the wives; get them involved. In my case I was fortunate, it just happened. I took her to a car show and then to an Upstate Cobra Club Summer Run, where she got to see Cobras, and she was hooked.

She in fact became my second wrench when we built our Cobra.

It sometimes seems that she's itching for the Winter and snow to be gone and warm weather to set in, more than I am. She can't wait for us to get out on the road with the Cobra.

It amazes me how she'll sit through any one of the given shows on Speed TV without getting bored. And, whenever there's a classsic or hot rod show on, or old racing films, she's always keeping her eyes peeled in hopes of seeing a? A Cobra, of course!

Lineslinger, I wish I could give you the magic formula to make that happen for you, but I'm dumbfounded that it happened to me. I was sure when I started the Cobra idea that she was going to be a Cobra Widow.

Hey but if it's any consolation, she still complains about my other habits like hunting, playing guitar, my interest in politics, hanging with the fellas doing beers, etc.

I'll see if I can a get an audience with the Big Guy who controls these kinds of things and put a good word in for you and yours'.

But take her to the WOW and while there make her, and not the wheels, the center of your attention. It never hurts to pick a set of wheels and tell the lady that the set you picked reminds you of her. The wheels are her style... fast, sleek, use your imagination.

I think my wife's related to BigMike's wife.

My wife must be married to different men. I think with her it's the "other female" syndrome, like she has to compete with the car for my attention. Exactly 100% opposite, but what does she know?!?:LOL:

My wife whined when I bought our SPF--until she drove it:D

When I sold it late last year--she was real sad about it--I wanted a Brock coupe and was offered a great price for the SPF, but after figuring the finances it would've been doable but ,for us, not worth it. I was sad and whined.

Found an old Naf 289 FIA for sale at a ridiculously low price, though it needed a lot of tlc. Hemmed and hawed over whether or not to buy it--my wife said make an offer and I'll buy the car Merry Christmas, besides I want another one.

She has helped me a lot while working on this one and it has proved to be more fun than our SPF ever was, for the two of us.

I always ask my wife if she wants to go to a cruise night or car show sometimes she does sometimes she doesn't.

I would throw her in the cold water right away, show her the most expensive stuff and tell her, that there's a cheaper alternative. If she wants to go and I would not take her, it would make her suspicious anyway.

My wife loves the cobra; matter of fact, she pushed me into buying it. But I have to let her drive it once or twice a year.

my husband loves my 2 week old Cobra, although he hasn't gotten to drive it yet; he does keep asking, but he keeps having to babysit ....:LOL:

Possession is 9/10's the law, so I guess it's "mine" but then again I guess he paid for it...;)

anyway, take her to the show, and let her pick the color. Good idea....

Ladies and gentleman thank you for the input,
I made an executive command decision,(she wasn't home) and went by myself. Actually I am glad that I did so. I spent a lot of time down there, over 4 hrs. and gained a lot of information. I know my "better half" would have gotten bored and I would have rushed through my "research" and ended up grumbling all the way home. In my business we have a phrase, "hurry up and screw up" and I didn't want to leave feeling like that.
To resolve the issue amicably I will be taking my lovely bride down there on Sunday and will act as navigator and tour guide, directly to the Premire booth. They have one of their cars on display with "body off" and another one that is completed with a 427 side oiler in it that belongs to "Fake Snake". Very impressive stuff, well enginered, overseen by some very sharp guys that know of what they speak.
I beleive this strategy will be, in the long run, Cobra productive.

Mark, I give her about an hour before she says "I'm going to the Mall!" THEN, you know you are dead meat. Usually my wife is the one that suggests going to a show. When SHE wants to go that means she won't go shopping.
