Hi Guys,

I was pulling out of my neighborhood Saturday morning and one of my neighbors pulled in a Black interior, black sidepipes, BRG no stripes, 427 Cobra. His name is Jeff we talked a little and said that he had just picked it up and it is CSX3260. Jeff lives four houses down from my home, my daughters used to babysit for his. It is living in good company with some other very nice cars.

Anybody out there know anything about this car?

Looked and sounded great.

Here's a pic from a few years ago... it's been on the block for a long time.

Ask him when you talk to him next time, if it still has the Holman-Moody engine that was installed as a "item for show" via FORD, by the original owner.

Hello Ron & Grumpy,

Knew I could count on you guys for feedback.

I was planning on going down to talk to him this evening about the car and invite him to the 4th Annual BACC dinner this Saturday.

I'll ask about the Holman Moody show engine then, also planned to bring along my digital camera and then post some new pics.

Where did it come from ? How long was it on the block and for how much?

Just found out....this is Lee's car. He has owned it since new and it has been for sale for a long time.

I'm jist a jump'n up and down, see if he will let you scan any pics he has of his days at the old LIONS dragstrip and his 120MPH plus passes. He was a character then and probably still is.

Green/black interior. Invoiced to Shelby American, with acrylic paint, on 04/12/66. Shelby invoice #000877, dated 07/14/66, billed Hi-Performance Motors (El Segundo, Ca) for the car: "1966 Cobra Street, Veh. #CSX3260, Green, $6145.00". It was picked up at the factory and sold under the Ford employee plan to Lee Stauffacher (Whittier, Ca).

By virtue of his status as a Ford Motor Process Engineer, Stauffacher got $1,000.00 of the sticker price, paying $6495.00 for his Cobra. For the first six months of it life, 3260 was driven to work on a daily basis by Stauffacher's wife, Glenna. Lee's comment, " This was exciting for her", seems somewhat understand, especially since a 427 Hi-rise engine by Holman-Moody was installed shortly after the car's acquisition. This powerplant , which was dynoed at 505 hp using a single 850 cfm Holly, allowed 3260 to post an 11.94 e.t. @ 122 mph at the Lion Drag Strip in Long Beach, using the stock exhaust/induction systems with Dunlop race tires on Sunburst wheels. Fitted with a full-width chrome roll bar (behind the seats, rather than through the body) and a hood scoop (mandated by hi-rise intake), 3260 used the blue CA plate "1 SNAKE".

It participated in the First Annual Monterey Historical Automobile Races in the late summer of '74 and was pictured in the 10/26/74 issue of Autoweek and the 4/5 '75 SOA newsletter. 3260 was taken off the street in the 70's to be stored in a climate-controlled garage and started/maintained on a regular basis.

As of 1995, the car was Original/Unrestored, showed a total of 17,048 miles, and remained in the possession of its original owner.

I'll tell you, those FE cars without the roll bar and the big side exhaust are really sensational looking. When I picture the 427 of the sixties, the car pictured here is what I remember. Really graceful looking in a very aggressive way. Outstanding.

I've always thought the same thing. The intersection of the side and the bottom of the rear wheel well/fender is the nicest part of the body.

One of the reasons I always admired Wilf's British Crendon (on par with ERA here)...rear street exhausts.
