What sealed beam headlights for the Cobra give off the best light,that are direct replacement,without doing any type of wiring upgrade

Sylvania SilverStars. They are the brightest sealed beam headlights around. A better option may be to scan the old JC Whitney catalog for an H3 rplacement lens. It's a plastic lens the same size as the H6024 (the single round headlight) that you can mount an H3 bulb in. The H3 has the same post wiring (no changes required) but can be found in significantly brighter lumens that the sealed beam. They are road legal as well. This is the route I took, and I can tell you the H3 SilverStars are MUCH better than the brightest H6024 I ever tried. Price is about 25
bucks a side for the lens' and bulbs (last time I bought them, anyhow). I use them in my '66 as well. No problems, and as easy as replacing a regular H6024 time and skill wise. |
The Sylvania lamps that come on the new SPF's are just sad for putting out good light at night. I bought a pair of Hella's with 85/100 lamps and they are very good for night driving and do a much better job at illuminating off to the sides as well.

You may want to check out performanceunlimited.com's site and look at their DOT approved direct replacement Crystalite headlamps. They are made with tempered glass and accept OEM H-4 halogen bulbs or their optional (and expensive) Lightening White bulbs. Since they are 60/55 Watt they are safe for OEM wired electrical systems. I am tempted to try these for myself. Anyone out there who has experience with these headlights? Are they as good as the folks selling them say they are? Rich

Gosh, this is a no-brainer . . . . The 7" Cibies or Hellas at 60/55 work great, even without a relay. There's also a place in So.Cal. (I think their name is Aardvark . . .) that sells VINTAGE quartz/halogen headlights. I've got a set of mid-60's Cibies on my 289, and they look and work great. There's no reason to use sealed beams, IMHO.
