RACER X #99 04-07-2004 08:50 AM

Track is much too tight and to narrow for any serious Cobra track wannabees. The track guys have hashed this over many times. You wanna race go to Pocono for newbies and graduate up to Watkins Glen if you really wanna go fast.
Too bad about E-town cause it's only about 25 miles from me.

Contact PDA for open track dates and cost. I believe you can get a full day at Pocono for around 180.00, with instruction.

As Roger has already stated, far too tight a course to play it safe with full size automobiles:

Really? I wonder what they built it for then.

max,
The track is really best suited to gocarts. Or perhaps cars that want to run one at a time to practice autox skills. Not too great for open track. I think it would wind up either as a parade, or someone getting hurt.

Like the Club Cranky guys said, come on down to Pocono for starters (which is where I've run). Or head up the Glen, which I still hope to do. PDA offers a great school at Pocono. I'll be there a few times this year.

Note the way many runoff areas lead directly onto another part of the driving surface. Many areas where the track passes very close by in opposite directions. Puts guard rails where runoffs should be. A lot of very twisty sections for 1.3 miles. Definetely a place for an autocross setup. Wonder why they didn't use the track area adjacent (on the left) to make a more open outer track, and the gocart version inside?

The writeup states "This is a technical course"....clue in a drag racer, what does that mean?

mrmustang 04-08-2004 08:09 PM

The basic layout was designed a few years back by the folks at the SCCA who run the autocross in the back parking lot. Unfortunately, the developers (owners of the track), did not check in with the folks who run the road courses for the SCCA, causing the course you see here to be far too dangerous to run more than one full size car at a time on the course....Far too many switchbacks that double over on themselves without leaving enough room for run off areas..........Shifter carts are being run on it right now as a test..........
