Spike TV Poll, Favorite Cars

Spike TV currently has a poll called "52 Favorite cars".

The poll is being conducted for a 2 hour program that is being produced.

Of all the categories the "427 Cobra" only appears in "Favorite Vintage Race Car"

Regretfully, the Cobra is not in the Chick Magnet, Muscle Car, Mid-Life Crisis, Sport Roadster or Classic categories

The Spike website is:

Spike TV has been contacting some of the Clubs (Avanti, Hummer) for background info, videos, etc

Again I think it shows that the Cobra is for real "car people". Go to a racetrack, muscle car show, or any true car enthusiast etc...I bet the Cobra is top 3.

Otherwise people alway seem to go for the sleek shapes of Ferrari and Lambo.

427 is also listed under "favorite car to dream about"

Just checked the SpikeTV site and voted.

The Shelby Cobra 427 had 60% of the vote, the Shelby Cobra Coupe had 20 %.

That gives Cobras... ummm...aah...

Kind of a crappy poll. Where did they come up with this list. Where is the Ferrari 365GTB Spyder? The Porsche 962 or GT40 in the Dream Car category? No Nomad in the Vintage Wagon or elsewhere? What about an Auburn Model 851 in the classic or vintage? I know, I know. Sign up on the forum and add them in.

Obviously lists created by folks who are between the ages of 21 and 30!

(Sorry folks, for my favorite vintage race car I had to choose the Porsche 917 over the Cobra, Coupe, or GT40.)

Why the heck is the Cobra not listed under "chick magnet"?

Don't forget to vote on "Favorite Hybrid"! ;)

petek, the 917/30 has to be the most pants loading beast to ever hit a racetrack. Also, I am not much past that 30yr range and I thought the list was a bit short. And a Viper as a muscle car? Where is the '49 Merc? What about pony cars? Where's the 70-71 Ford/Chevy/Mopar T/A based cars? OK for the young'uns, where is the Lancer Evo?

I agree about the chick magnet. When it was first assembled and in primer I had far more women ask for rides than guys. Even after explaining that it was loud, rough, windy, uncivilized compared to something like a Miata. All I would get is a huge grin. It's the first thing my wife and I did as almost a pre-date thing. She once told my mother she married me for the car. It was only half jokingly.

917,,,,, just hearing those numbers strikes fear into me.

Beast doesn't begin to describe it. Has there EVER been a race car THAT wild? Will the EVER be again? Doubtful.

The only thing I can think of that comes close is the Cerbera Speed 12 test mules. They were still 2200# but they put the engine on a 1000hp test stand and broke the input shaft. The owner, a Mr. Wheeler I believe, drove one home one night and before he got 300 yards decided that the cars would kill someone and decided to cancel the program. Wilf can probably get a little more info on this, I read the interview in a British magazine.

Poll not accurate-written for couch potato audience.
Not only is cobra barely mentioned, but of all the Ferrari's listed-no one brought up the '62 250gt california.
not one mention of the 928s4 turbo
nothing about the gt pony's
this poll must have been written by someone who has seen a car but never really driven a car.

flipper35 04-09-2004 05:45 PM

It's hard to think all that up when you are only 8. I almost said 13, but lots of 13yr olds know of more cars than whats listed.

You guys discuss all you want...

I have been skewing SPIKETV's results for two days.

Hey SPIKEBoy.. can you say ... Cobra?"

Have you seen the current results for Favorite Dream Car or Favorite Vintage Race Car? Oh yeah, baby! Cast your votes, guys.

WTF is the Ford Econoline Van doing under Favorite Chick Magnet???? Favorite Make Out Mobile, sure (I voted for the Rambler). But chick magnet? C'mon, people...

And who in the hell came up with this Favorite Convertible list? I mean of all the vehicles EVER MADE, we have the PT Cruiser and Lexus SC430????

This is sad. Says a lot about the diffences between the real car people and Spike TV viewers (or at least the producers).
