need escorts for Viet-Nam memorial
I wanted to make sure all the Deep South Cobra Club in mid florida know about this
http://www.clubcobra.com/forums/show...threadid=52734 it seems there are a few of these war memorials in this country that go to different areas all the time, and if they would like to have us escort it then I am all for it. I know this is a little late but I just found out about today. Mike |
last summer, a traveling "wall" came to my community. I took some time off at lunch, drove over, walked along the over 56,000 names, then visited the big trailor full of letters and momentoes. When it was time to go back to work, i walked to the center of the grass, and gave the most proper salute i could render.
I spent a year there, had friends become MIA and KIA. I fly my flag every day. A good friend back in Kansas, his wife's father was the first soldier killed when the First Infantry Division deployed to Vietnam, i think about '66. He was a platoon sergeant, and during a mortar attack a few days after "in-country", he ran to a soldier's position, and was killed. His name is the first one of the Ft. Riley Memorial to their dead. Terri was all of 11 years old when he father gave his life. It has affected her all her life. We owe it to those who laid down their lives for their country and fellow soldiers. My license plate here in South Carolina is NAM VET. Rest in peace, buddies. I still honor you. |
