What original 427 CSX is this?

These pictures came from 'The Great Book of Sports Cars' c1988 by Dean Batchelor. The CSX # is not listed. Anybody know what the history/ CSX of this car is??

Brett.. I'll do some research, but I think it's mis-labeled.
I don't think that's a 427... it looks like a puffed-up 289. (check the shape of the nose opening.)
Front flares have been worked and the dog-leg of the rear wings is too bulbous.

computerworks 04-18-2004 07:52 PM

My call on it is CSX2457...but CobraJeff could confirm that.

CSX 4039 04-19-2004 05:28 PM

Thanks. I don't see much on Google on CSX 2457. Got any other pics? I was wondering if it was a replica or something, even.

It's got tons of 289 FIA/USRRC cues; under car side exhaust, forward roll bar brace, fuel filler location, small front air inlet, cut back rear door edge.

Like this CSX 2431, 1965 USRRC @ Riverside pix:

it could be CSX2430 (or a copy of same, the wheels are not proper, as these Shelby American Collection photos show):

I think the poster with 2431 is at the Targa....looks a little too hilly for Riverside...

It is certainly a 289, although a much modified one. Clues: forward braced roll bar, glove box lock only used on 260-289 cars, and fiberglass trunk bottom visible on rear view is unique to 260-289 cars.

cobrajeff 04-20-2004 09:42 AM

Definately looks like a 289 FIA body - might possibly be a rebodied 289 street car. I saw one like it at a SAAC Vegas event a few years back, but don't recall the CSX #.

SINCE THE PICTURES WERE TAKEN AT THE SHELBY MUSEIUM IN COLORADO, A CALL THERE MAY ANSEWER THE QUESTIONS.

CSX 4039 04-20-2004 07:17 PM

It has the cut back doors. Does that help?
It also has metal plates on either side of the oil cooling radiator. Is that authentic those metal plates on the differential cooler? We any sold with stock chrome quick jacks? It doesn't have the bungy cord holes. Did people just drill those themselves? Is it possible that he photographed and published entirely a replica??? This is an 80's book (wondrful huge book, BTW), before there were as many 289 style replicas out there, but he clearly published this as a "427" since on the previous page, he published unlabeled photos of a maroon street car that was for the entry on 260-289 Cobras...

THE CAR IS CSX2430, AS CONFIRMED BY A BOARD MEMBER OF THE SHELBY COLLECTION IN BOLDER CO. THE CAR HAS QUITE A HISTORY (SEE PG 107 , '97 WORLD REGISTRY). WHILE THE ORGINAL COLOR WAS VINEYARD GREEN, ITS NOW THE RED. A GREAT PICTURE OF THE CAR IS ON THE COVER OF THE SHELBY AMERICAN #58

CSX 4039 04-21-2004 09:57 AM

Awesome. Thanks. So, I guess its a 289. I'll change the caption in the photos in the gallery. Thanks.:)

Terry- the car in question is not the car in the museum. It is the car out in the gravel driveway that is in the gallery links at the start of the thread. You have to clink on the links to see. Different cars, no?
