Cookout dinner at DVSFIV. Who's in?

I just got off the phone with DV regarding the planning of a family style cookout at DVSFIV. Doug I. had brought up this idea, and together we are hoping to make it part of the agenda.

The tentative plan is as follows. DV is awaiting final approval to use Deer Creek State Park on Saturday. After the car show in downton London, we will have a fully escorted cruise, roughly 35 minutes, to Deer Creek Park. From what I am told, it is a beautiful park. Bring your bathing suits too!! It has a beach with a full compliment of water activities. The park should also be a fabulous place to get some photographs of the cars!!

If there is enough interest, we would like to organize a cookout dinner. DV has said he can make arrangements to order all of the needed food, from burgers to dogs, to chips to soda. We may need to charge a few dollars per head to cover the costs, but it should be very minimal. Also, DV has also made arrangements to have vans transport any grills, propane or other BBQ supplies anyone is willing or able to bring. I'm going to bring two round charcoal grills and will be happy to put anyone elses' supplies in my support vehicle for transport too. So you will not need to carry them with you in the Cobras. We will transport it all. You are welcome and encouraged to bring any supplies you would care to.

We just need to get a head count to determine how many people would be interested in the event, so we can plan the food, vans or other logistics.

So who would be interested in a cookout dinner Saturday night?

Steve,

I'm definitely in and I know the rest of my family may be as well. It may be me, my dad, and my buddy Jay coming for the Thursday night and Friday all-day activities, but the "fam" (read: ladies) said they would like to come down together on Saturday. Sounds like a GREAT family event idea!!

As far as supplies and help, I'm willing to help out...may not be able to fit the grill in the Expedition, but can bring other stuff.

Let me know any way I can be of help. Count me (and my posse') in!

NO QSL on Saturday night??

klayfish 04-21-2004 09:00 AM

Jack,
I think we're going to wrap up in London a little earlier than last year, so we'll be at the park early. I'd bet you can grab a bite with us and take off for QSL in plenty of time to enjoy some "refreshements". Maybe a bunch of guys (and gals) would want to cruise out together from the park to QSL.

Sounds great to me! I'm sure the kids would love the beach!

Count 2 adults, 3 kids in! The littlest one will only be 8 mo's old, so she won't eat much...

Great idea!!

Well darn. My fault, I didn't swear Steve to secrecy! :)

OK, even though we have not confirmed this yet, here is the "TENTATIVE" plan for Saturday: Under full Police escort once again, like Fling 1 and II, we will be fully escorted from London, by no less than three police departments to Deer Creek.

This is #1 of 3 parts for Saturday afternoon/night! For those that want to do a real time old fashioned picnic we ( read Steve and Doug) are setting this up. The park is giving us as much area as we want or need. We can picnic all night, or until you are simply picnicked out.

2nd: If you are not into the picnic thing, the State of Ohio is turning the Lodge over to us. An absolutely georgeous stone lodge witha fine restaurant! Randy and I are meeting with the Lodge manager, the chef, the state director, and manager of the Lodge next week. They will cater to us, open the restaurant to us and, they promise to pamper us like no one before! In fact "they" are already trying to talk us into making Deer Creek part of the annual Fling!

#3: This is a state park. It has a huge lake, with hundreds of feet of beach! (Keep in mind, this is Ohio guys, not Florida, but it is one of the nicest places I know of in Ohio.

There is fishing, swimming and boating for all that may want to partake. In fact I have reserved every boat in their inventory for our event! They have pontoon boats for those that may want to cruise in something a little more quiet ;), wave runners, ski boats, with all the equipment of course, and fishing boats, all available to us! For those that may want to use the boats, there will be a fee, payable to them. They indicated that they could probably come up with a discount for us, and/or donate something to Jenny. (More on this as it becomes available.)

You wanted to get back to the basics? Well I think we are. This is a good thing. Friday will be pretty cool too, and busy! Sunday...well, shall we say we're changing that too. But, the more we change it the more it stays the same ;)

It's going on the 17th hour of the day. I think I'm a little pooped. As soon as we confirm Deer Creek I'll let you know, as well as the other events for this year as plans firm up. In the mean time "YOU" tell me if there is enough interest in the "picnic". It will depend on you!

DV... if you come--you "WILL" come back!

klayfish 04-22-2004 04:19 AM

DV, my friend, I'm sorry and quite embarrased. :o I must have misunderstood what you wanted me to talk about as far as the picnic is concerned. Hope I didn't cause any troubles. Whatever we decide to do, I offer any assistance I can. And I promise to keep my mouth shut!! :D

LOL :)
Steve, fella geesh...NOT a problem! I just don't normally release anything until we have it locked in. People start making plans, only to find out that everything has changed at the last minute!

However, I feel that this will certainly happen if our "family" wants it to. Personally I think it will be one of the best events we've had. A long cruise on nice country roads, Police escorted, swimming, hiking (yuck!), good food, fun and games-bring the frisbees and a volley ball net! A real picnic, and/or catered-your, choice and your choice of boating!

I warned "you", get lots of rest the week before "The Fling!" You think the last three years was non-stop....heee-heee.....

DV...If you come--you WIll come back!

PS...remember when we had "Plan B" when the Columbus sniper was on the loose, wll IT may still come through ;) Wont replace anything at the Fling, but will certainly add to it!

Doug I 04-22-2004 07:54 AM

so far we have 6 Cobras, 1 general car and 24 people.

Doug I 04-22-2004 05:26 PM

The crowd is growing !!!

dscott 04-22-2004 07:20 PM

Count me and the wife in. I can bring lots of extras in the trailer to ohio but I definitely want to drive the Cobra to the lake. I do have a nice gas BBQ I could bring if someone can haul it to the lake.
Don

Double Venom 04-23-2004 03:24 AM

Don,
We've made arrangements to haul it all from the hotels and back. All I'm going to need to know is, do we need a pick up truck, step van or semi! :)
DV

larryar 04-23-2004 03:51 AM

Cook out sounds great! Since this is a State Park, do they allow alcohol?
Count us in.,
Larry & Mary:)

Double Venom 04-23-2004 05:10 AM

Larry, I knew that question was going to pop up. NO.
On the other hand it is going to be a full 30 minute drive back to the hotels, so no alcohol at the picnic is probably not a bad thing.

Besides, after you get done with Friday night, you will probably appreciate a few dry days! ;)

Friday night is really starting to shape up!

DV...If you come--you WILL come back!

klayfish 04-23-2004 06:26 AM

DV, a few folks have asked about this too. Any idea what time we're thinking of heading to the park? Maybe if we do the cookout slightly earlier, we can give out directions to the QS&L or other "night activity" locations for those who want them?

Steve

Double Venom 04-23-2004 03:00 PM

Steve,
If we go to the park we wont be pulling out of London before 2:30 P.M. I suspect we will be finished by 9 or 10 at the lodge, OR when ever. Keep in mind QSL is about 55 miles from the lodge.

I don't know if everyone is just sitting back or what, but I have yet to get a complaint about the picnic, nor a affirmative voice for QS & L.

C'mon guys, it's your call!
DV...we want to do it "your" way!

Doug I 05-01-2004 08:36 AM

I've run out of fingers and toes to keep a count on .... have to get me a piece of paper and a pen .....

I think we are at about 45-50 so far.

We'll take a head count around Monday or so then start putting together a schedule and options to see how it'll all fit together and go from there.
