HELP: 302 rod knock-bad!
Have may projects and have to do an econmy rebuild on a stock small blockthat developed a terrible rod knock on the way to a car show this am. Had ca towed home. Is a coupe and the engine is easy to get to for removal.
THE question: what should I do the engine once it's out to insure a reliable motor? What can I do to it while it is apart for a little more HP cheap? Cam? reworked heads? ALLinf/insights appreciated. This was quite unexpected and thus un budgted for. cb

How much you have to do depends on how much damage was done to the crank and journal. An analysis of the oil by a reputable shop should tell you what is in it, which will tell you what components were damaged and what was deposited in your oil, and from there throughout your engine.
The following is a suggestion: given your proximity to Southern Automotive down in McDonough, you may want to call them to see if they can give you any advice. Bill or Louis should be able to at least provide some reasonable analysis to define the extent of the problem and steer you in a productive direction. Without seeing the damaged components or performing an oil analysis, it's a bit difficult to try to give advice over the web. Good luck.
