clutch cable delimma
hey guys,
just got the body on the SV and after hooking up the clutch cable have discovered i have no play in the pedal and no adjustment left on the cable. the car has a 302 with a MCCloud BH with tremec 3550. i bought the clutch release arm, BH, and tranny from the same location so "figured" they would match. the cable is from SV. after talking with dana and Zoomer at SV, i find that SV only supplies the cable i have. does anyone out there have the same basic setup that can give me any ideas on another cable that will fit, work properly and provide some adjustment. the spring on the clutch end of the cable, with pedal depressed is completely compressed to the point of "stacking", which of course abruptly stops any further clutch movement. the clutch is disengageing but with no adjustment, this is completely unsat. any ideas / thoughts appreciated outlaw |
Post some pictures of your set up as it is now. Sounds similar to the Classic Roadster assembly. I'm sure there are some S.V. owners out there who can help.

The spring should hold the fork away from the throw out bearing. It sounds like yours is holding the fork against the throwout bearing.... or in other words, assisting the clutch pedal. To disengage the clutch, does your fork move towards the front of the car or to the rear? I'm getting a funny picture here in my mind when I try to understand what you have there. - Jim - |
Have you tried an adjustable cable form Ford? #M-7553-302 We use them on the cable clutch cars we build.

cobra20646,
you got it right, the compressed spring is on the clutch arm end of the cable and as the clutch is activated, the spring compresses. the "clutch arm" moves towards the front of the car, not aft, when the clutch pedal is depressed. i am looking at fabbing a bracket to attach to the BH to reposition the cable fwd so as to get some adjustment capability, but any help appreciated. outlaw |
bruce edwards,
hey, this sounds interesting, if the upper end of the cable is compatable with the SV engineered pedal assy. is it possible to go online somewhere and get a pic of this cable by any chance. appreciate your assistance. do not really want to go the fabrication route if i don;t have to, but as it is, i don't have enough adjustment for the cable on the McCloud BH. all help appreciated. thanks brad |
Brad,
It is a Mustang style cable with a treaded rod on the clutch end. You should be able to check with SV to see if it is the same. My bet is that it will work with little in the way of mods. |
