I burned the $hit out of my leg a couple of weeks ago and I'm still soaking it, dressing it, using antibiotic ointment, etc.
It was my own fault. I'd been driving the car for a couple of hours and was a little stiff. As I got out, I thought "You're not stepping far enough away" and sure enough...Stupid idiot! Heat shields? Hell no! Be more careful? Hell yes! Sell the car and get a GTO? Are you nuts? Lowell |
It's been a while for me and I plan to keep it that way.:LOL: It usually
took about 4 weeks to heal up. You have a lttle more time yet but should be over the hump on total heal time! |
Water Jel....3 ro 4 times a day for a solid week RELIGIOUSLY...works magic as long as the severity of the burn does not require professional attention...Available at CVC drugstores or at Grainger....

Hand print!
One of the other ClubCobra members told me about the hand print that he cannot completely remove from his chrome sidepipe. Complements of the local BAR (Bureau of Automotive Repair) inspector. He left it there while removing the tailpipe probe after the smog test!:rolleyes:
He said several runs at removing it with steel wool but you can still see it. Finger prints and all!:eek: jdog |
Once Bitten
It was about six years ago and I still have the scar to prove it! Of course it was summer and I had my shorts on, swung my legs out and pulled my left leg back and hit the pipe. Instant blister ahhh the fun.
I used to have an Emmick racing go cart with the straight exhaust pipe sticking out. Made a couple of test runs down the street and my boxer touched his nose to the pipe!!!! Sizzle and he was gone..... At least I haven't burned ny nose..LOL Guards, covers, safety precautions, heck no! If your going to play with a cobra you are going to get bit!!! :3DSMILE: |
About 1985 or 86---At the Long Beach Gran Prix--I changed a dead spark plug on a stock block Indy car during a hot session ---dropped the plug onto the floor pan---after squeesing off the injector line with a set of visegrips to get the hole firing, I then reached down between the header tubes to get the plug( long time before the kevlar heat sleeves), now that the cylinder was firing the pipe was hot and I burned my arm severely on two sides---used aloe verie??? salve and it didn't even leave a scar.

You did the right thing with the aloe. Lucky I live Hawaii - we have a big plot of it in our yard - great stuff for burns, just cut off a leaf and slime the burn with the sap - very soothing and minimal or no scars so far on any burns. |
Thanks everybody for the advice. We did have an aloe plant around here somewhere but it must've died. I've used the stuff before and it worked.
This particular one was deep and not very painful initially, so my big concern is infection. I soak it for about half an hour every day in warm water with iodine and then when it's dry, I put antibiotic ointment on it and cover it with a non-stick pad and a sticky clear plastic dressing which is impregnated with iodine. Every day it's noticeably smaller but yeah, it's going to be awhile yet. What a horror to be burned like that over most of your body. I can't even imagine how people manage with really severe burns. First day i owned the car and first ride my wife took with me, We stopped for cold drinks and snacks and as she leaned in to put the bag in the car-BAAM

Smells like barbeque when you start up the car after a few of these burns.
