It's called tilt shift photography. Very cool.

Here's some great examples of what it can do

Search youtube as well. There are some amazing videos where you'd swear you're looking at stop motion animated toys.

Hmm, tilt-shift photography...cool.

Actually it was my brother-in-law who took that shot and did the effect, so until now I had no idea how he did it either. Will have to give it a try from now on.

Are you saying that your brother-in-law didn't use any special equipment to take the shot? Usually people do it with an expensive tilt shift lense but I've read somewhere that the effect can be duplicated in Photoshop as well. Interesting.

SunDude 02-16-2010 01:33 PM

I'll hafta check with him. He took the photo with a nice digital camera, but I don't recall him swapping out lenses or anything. He might've done it in Photoshop like you say.

Buzz 02-16-2010 05:38 PM

Its a Photoshop (or other photo-editing software) blur effect applied to the upper part of the picture. One can tell by looking at the poles in the lawn - the upper parts are blurred while the lower sections are in sharper focus. If it was a depth of field (lens) effect the blur would be distance based and the entire length of the poles would appear the same. With a little work in Photoshop, you can do anything a lens can do and much more - a truly versatile creative medium.

rain

Hey CobraDan, I got a few pictures of ours Cobras in the rain. This one from a few years back at a Watermelon Festival in Russellville. Alabama.

Thirty minute rain, sun came out, tarps came off, back to the show.
