Csx2166
Just been looking at my " Carroll Shelby`s Racing Cobra" book by Friedman & Christy as you do and pondered a question.
The Cobra that Ken Miles and John Morton raced at Sebring 1964 was CSX2166, you know the one with all the vents and holes cut in the bonnet and front bodywork. Well i was wondering if this car still looks like that. Anyone know, just curious. Paul :) |
Paul... I think the true saga is that it was really CSX2196 that was raced (the number was recorded wrong). As you know, CSX2196 became the fliptop and, as such, was the only BB prototype.
CSX2166 has since been converted to a Coupe and, last I know, was in Europe. |
Oh right Ron, i did,nt know that. So did the body survive when the Shelby crew took it off for the fliptop?
|
Nope. The body was pretty mangled. They built a new custom skin when they modified it into the flip-top.
|
That's the understanding I have from reading Mason's own binders on his car.

I was going to suggest that you contact the registry and noticed that Ned had 'Posted'. With the re build body etc. I wonder what it would be worth and what it's value may have been if left in the original stylepatricularly CSX 2166 that was converted into the coupe,... |
Thanks for the info guys, i think the Sebring car could be my next 1/24 scale model project. :)
|
Well i finished the model , not a bad job. Soldering the nose guard was not fun as im new at that  When i glued it on , its sunk one side:CRY: . The vents on the bonnet and nose came out alright, just need a tiny tiny thin red wire to look like a bunjie cord to go around the boot handle.
I reshaped the wheel arches too. What d`ya think? http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...m/100_0210.jpg http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...m/100_0213.jpg |
Im just going to hi jack my own thread with pictures of another Cobra model i have just finished. Its an old white metal model made in the early 1970`s by MIKANSUE. As its old, the model is quite basic and the front wheels are too small but i did,nt want to change them with different ones as it would,nt be totally original  .
The shade of green is a little bit lighter :o but not much. Here is the MIKANSUE 1/43 scale AC Cobra Le Mans Coupe. http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...m/100_0207.jpg http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...m/100_0209.jpg |
great work..wish I had a steady enough hand for that kind of detail!!
