SPF - Shelby & Hotrod TV

I just saw a TV show they called Hotrod Television, on Superformance. All in all a good show. There was a spot where they showed Carrol Shelby saying - and I am paraphrasing here "I have a wonderful relationship with Superformance. They build a quality car... not junk like the rest of them."

So now you know the add that Shelby put out a few years back calling all your cars an embarrisment came right from ole Shelby's heart. :p

The show was on my cable channel that is usually ESPN2.

Ol' Shel will say something good about anyone who pays him enough.

I find that somewhat ironic considering the Superformance car is built in South Africa. I don't find the irony in the area of quality, but that Carroll Shelby would back them before an American builder.

My basis for this statement? I have an old Bill Cosby album where Cosby talks about when Mr. Shelby approached him and chastised him for owning Ferraris, and not an American made car. This conversation was the precursor to Shelby building one of the Super Cobras for Mr. Cosby. Cosby never kept the car, but he has an entire bit in his album where he talks about the day he took delivery of the car.

So, considering that Mr. Shelby is such a staunch "American made" proponent, I find his statement about Superformance somewhat amusing, if not hypocritical.

That's not so true...he didn't have any problems with a UK-made car back then.
