start button

Does all your rides have key ignition? Does anyone know if the race cars did? I am just thinking of ideas and I think I am going to install a race like flip switch with a start button. That with the Battery switch seems like a lot. Do I really need a Key? Is there a way to keep the car protected without it.

Appreciate your thoughts.

I think if you do that you will need a key locked battery cutoff switch.

I have a push button starter and no key. Instead I have a remote power kill switch that is activated via remote control, so if you don't have the key fob you can not turn on the electric to the car, and therefor can not start it. In case the remote power on/off is not working (remote control is lost or not working) then there is a hidden button that will turn the power on and off. This hidden button could be repalced by a keyed switch for a little more protection.

Autoxmike,

Is this something you put together yourself, or did you pick up a system for your set up?

I used a remote battery disconnect switch - I so not remember the part number, but a quick internet search turned up one from Painless Wireing, part #30206. See this link for the manual : http://www.painlessperformance.com/M...nstruction.pdf

I mounted the momentary switch in a hidden location. I also picked up a universal "Remote Control" kit that included 2 key fobs and a couple of relays. I think mine can control 6 different functions. I use mine to release the latches on the doors & hood, and another is in parallel with the momentary switch to the remote battery switch/latching relay. The relay is a latching relay, which means that each time you "push" the button (either the hidden button or the key fob), the relay changes state - if it was open, then it closes, and vice versa. So, press the fob once to connect the battery, press again disconnect, etc, etc. Anything that needs power all the time hook up before the latching relay, such as the key fob receiver and power to the relays...

Hope this helps...

Thank you...I think I am going to give that a try.
