Six speed tranny?
A friend just bought a 2001 ZO6 Vette. It has the 6 speed manual tranny and 385 hp small block (at least that is what he told me). He took me a ride and stepped into it pretty hard, when he missed 3rd gear. He said he was having a hell of a time getting used to that extra slot for 5th/6th in the shifter, when shifting fast. When going for 3rd gear he hit half way between 3rd and 5th.
I had a 1980 dodge challenger with a 5 speed, and don't recall any problems myself. However with a 4 popper I didn't consider it a performance car, and I didn't drive it hard.
Anyone have issues with 5 & 6 speed trannys?
I kind of like the over drive idea, but not at the expense of shifting problem.

That's not a transmission problem, it's the person shifting problem. :D

I have the tremec 6 viper tranny in spf 1837. I haven't had any misshift problems. The gate is narrow but the shift is clean. I am not the best power shifter but with these cars being so short coupled I am not so sure power shifting is all that advisable from 2nd to 3rd. If your power shifting from 4th to 5th your out of my league so no comment. The 6th gear is a great overdrive. My diff is 3.55 and with the 6th gear we're turning 1200 rpm at about 70 mph. It really extends your range on these small 16 gallon tanks.

I've driven 6 speed Porsches for years, and have a Tremec T56 in my Lonestar Cobra...I agree with Tim...it's the driver, NOT the car!!!!

The Corvette C5 6 speeds have an OEM shifter that often has problems with a 2 to 3 missed shifts while racing. An aftermarket shifter will cure those woes.. It did on my old 2004 Z06 and 1998 6spd. ...part driver, part equipment.
