Introduction
Hi Guys,
This is my first post on this site. Just like to sat hello from over here in the UK.Having just built two Dax Rushes(Lotus 7 type cars),one with 4.6 V8 and the other with Cosworth turbo,it's time to build a proper car so I've ordered a Dax Tojeiro(Cobra). Not sure which way to go engine wise as I plan to import one from the US.Over here nearly everyone uses the small block Chevy but I want to use the small block Ford with Tremec gearbox. I would appreciate your views on this and which way you would go. Secondly I have info and prices from Fastco in the US amongst others but he seems to give the best deal/package.Again any views on this. Any views and advice would be great. Many Thanks John |
Hey John, Welcome.
I say you go for the engine that has the most available parts and upgrades carried by your local hot rod or auto parts stores. Both are good power plants and very reilable. Regarding prices, check the vendors here on this forum. I think you will find them very competitive. |

Welcome to the club. And I second Mike's engine suggestion of getting one that is easiest for you to get parts and pieces for. I am not sure what small block Fords you have available over there if any, and you might check on prices from over here of you order the engine from the States. Ron :) |

Thanks for the prompt replies.It used to be pretty much Chevy only over here but now it is easier to get hold of Ford engine/tuning parts and dress up items like rocker covers etc.I have been in contact with Fastco and other companies but I am a little reluctant to import one for the simple reason that if its not right ,its a long way away. As regards price, the way the pound is against the dollar where Fastco will charge me say $7500 for an engine/ gearbox combination,companies over here will be $14000 roughly.I know I will have to pay shipping and tax but it is a big saving. I'll probably bite the bullet and go for it so vave any of you guys got suggestions for other companies in the US. Cheers. John |
John....I have heard of a few guys that had problems with a "crate" engine but they are in the minority. Contact some of the vendors here and talk to them about prices and shipping. With the difference you quoted in total cost it would make sense to buy one from here and take it to a local mech. if there is any problem with the engine. I'm sure most of the guys here were be willing to work out some deal for you. Cheers.

I am a mechanic so oil leaks,engine set up etc would'nt be a problem.I like yourself have heard of problems, but with blocks. This is my main concern but as you say with the price difference it may be worth a punt. Cheers John |
Hi Mike....I'm sure that with customs and freight the prices are higher than you'd like, but that could be off set by going with one of the lesser known but very reputable engine builders here in the colonies. One of the best is Elliot Franklin at Mustang Corral in California. He's a vintage racer himself so has a good understanding of what it takes to make an engine live under extreme pressure. His 427 small blocks w/ Kinsler injection are easily putting out over 500 HP to the rear wheels. The big names like Roush, Kieth Craft, etc. are all good and stand behind their products but may not deliver the personal service you get with a custom builder. Badger
