New guy 4.6L question

I am new to the forum and have been trying t research my topic without much success. I am in the process of buying a kit and want to use the 4.6L Ford mod engine. I have read that the packing is very tight but no real info on what is needed outside of fitting the motor. Can anyone tell me what I will face in making the engine work from an wiring, cooling, etc. point of view? Can I purchase the engine without harness and find an computer, wiring, etc to make it work or should I look to buy a salvage engine complete with these items?

If you have done one of these and can share your experience that would be great!

FYI, my logic behind the 4.6 is to have a modern engine with minimal maintenance, good mpg and all the power you could need if you super charge it. When the kit is done I want to drive it not tune it.

Take a look over at the 4.6 forum @ FFCobra, you will be able to pick up a lot of insight from the 4.6 builders.

Using a complete donor car will be the easiest/least expensive route. One the greaest challenges will be dealing with Ford's PATS system but that has been taken care of! :D

Good Luck!

I will check that out, thank you!

Personnaly I can see this converson to be wrought with mountains of problems. If you are using a stock Ford ECU, anyway. It has sensors everywhere even on the gas cap! Where to cut the harness would be a chore. But there are guys out there that never cease to amaze me. They can overcome anything.
Good luck!

I'm building a hurricane using a aluminum 4.6 dohc out of a 03 lincon aviator mated to a 98 t45 trans so far so good It is tight since these are so damn big
I decided to go with a carburated set up from sullivan performance utilizing a msd ignition to run the stock coil over plugs.
I wanted to build something that will make people scratch their heads when they look at it the engine should be good for about 320 -340 at the crank with the car weighing in somewhere around 2500lbs wet

I can say nothing on these motors are cheap and unless you have forged internals do not push beyond 400 hp

Kar-kraft seem to offer a good package on 4.6 dohc's but since the motors are so tall height will be an issue
Good luck Bobby

Use a 4.6 they fit better. See Sergio's site www.cobra4me.com. Definitely go supercharged, don't go cheap on important parts, ask around here and in particular Sergio's site before you buy stuff.

Join Modular Fords site also and get into the 03/04 Cobra forum you'll find a wealth of information there. Pay attention to the blown engine thread. They are not talking about blowers they are talking about how they hurt their toys. Very good reading You Don't Have to Hurt Yours, be informed, there is probably a million dollars of destructive testing in that one thread.

I sent you a PM with more info. Welcome to Club Cobra, the definitive place to be if you have a Cobra.
