Csx3176

Took a lap (as a passenger) in 3176 today at Beaver Run. No wind screen, very fast. Took ten minutes to be able to blink normally, as all the moisture was gone from my eyes. Took a couple of hours to get the smile off my face.:D :D Incredible ride. Does anybody know any history on this car? Very little info on the net. Gman

...and just where was your camera? Huh? :p

Quote:

CSX 3176 ran the 1966 Sebring race as #7 driven by John Bentley, Arthur M. Latta, and Herb Byrne. It raced in its original Rangoon red paint.

Ron, that's all I found. Just went to kill some time with my son, no camera, didn't expect the cobra. He wanted the ride but I told him too bad. He got to ride in a Brock coupe in London. Gman

...lucky day... glad you had the experience.

I found this

http://www.saac.com/articles.htm

As it turned out, only a handful of either models were brought to SAAC-26 and none were planned to be raced. But when only three Cobras made the grid - stalwarts Robert Andersson (in CSX3176), Bryan Appleby and Jerry Streickert (both in CSX4000s), Shelby dealer Jim Harrell and Shelby American’s public relations director Gary Patterson commandeered one each CSX4000 and CSX7000 Cobra racers and joined the action. The GT350 race was the equivalent of red meat thrown into a cage of fasting tigers. Seventeen cars made the grid and promised an exciting race on Sunday.

Thanks Roscoe, Gman
