Cleaning pitted wheels..?

I've picked up a used Superformance /WAW wheel that is pretty badly pitted. Mother's and a buffer don't seem to have much effect. Any suggestions on what might, if anything, bring the shine back to these wheels? Thanks for any help.

If they are really deep pits, you will have to start with sandpaper. Sorry

what grit would you recommend?

Why don't you send them out to be polished by a guy with the right equipment and knowhow?

There's an idea. Local yellow pages don't have any listing under "polishing".
What heading would you suggest looking for? Thanks.

If the wheels are badly pitted, I agree with Roscoe. If you have all the equipment and supplies (expensive) and are willing to expend about 10 or more hours per wheel to do the job right, then you have a lot of courage.

Check with any local chrome plating (or any plating shop) for estimates on sanding and polishing.

Steve;
If it's chrome and you want a quick temperary fix, try this: take some tin foil, ball it up, and rub it hard over the pitted area. The metal fills in the pits for a while (car show?) and doesn't look half bad. It's an old biker trick.

Thanks Sllib - cool trick!
The wheels are polished aluminum, and just the opposite of car show use, they will be used to mount a set of MT street radial slicks for occasional blasts down the strip. Truth is they will do the job I want them to do just fine, pits and all. One of them just looks a little rough and I'd like to be able to clean it up a bit.
