Best glue for bonding roll bar grommets
What's the best adhesive to use when bonding the rubber roll bar grommets to the painted body on my cobra? I tried Permatex contact cement and Loctite epoxy. Neither worked. |

Adhesive? Don't you just drill the right size hole and the bar OD holds the grommet in place in the hole? |

If you used a contact glue it is rubber cement and needs to be applied to the bottom of the grommet and also the painted surface and then let to dry before you place them together for a bond. |

I never used any glue for my grommets. They fit the holes well and had the regular grove like a smaller grommet that you put wire through and when the roll bar was stuck through, it pushed them tight.

They use superglue at the factory (leaves a residue on the body)...but I used two sided sticky tape...and had no problems...plus it's easily removable if I go back to the shorter roll bar. |

Goop for plumbing has become one of my favorite adhesives for difficult to bond materials like rubber and plastic. Mask off anything you don't want it on. |

If you need an adhesive, try the 3M weather strip adhesive. This is sometimes called "yellow snots".
It is nasty and I would not recommend it get on anything you are not bonding.

Works well and will probably do the trick.
