You might want to try this stuff:
http://www.rangerpaint.com/ I bought a small can and experimented with the application, but never got around to testing a whole tire on the street. It was pretty durable stuff and could only be removed with a lot of lacquer thinner. If I ever buy some Billboards for my spare set of rims, I will give it a full test (this won't happen for a long time, so don't hold your breath). Anyways, it's an option and the "kids" that stumbled on this stuff may actually have found a good solution! Most of the paint pens are not very durable and you will get cracking after a little road time. Some have used titanium based oil paints with success. -Dean |
I bit the bullet & bought an airbrush. You can work VERY fine, and the fact that you're spraying gives it a nice authentic (badly done) look.
Just kidding - the fine spray is extremely controllable. |
I used Plasti-Dip spray (not the liquid in a can that you dip your tool handles in) two years ago on my Goodyears and it's still holding up fairly well. Check this site for a source. http://garage-toys.com/pldippepr.html
You do have to use masking tape and newspaper and it takes a while to do a tire. However, when it dries, the product is flexible and fairly durable. :D David |

I bought an almost new set of Billboards. When I picked them up, the letters were done better than any I had seen. He told me they were done with an airbrush. It really does work well.

I'll try to remember to post a picture.

767 Jockey has the best I have seen as well.
They are perfectly painted and have a touch of off-white which gives them a true vintage look. Jeff |
Before, after and current pic using a fabric pen. I have several hundred miles on the car since the touch up and can say that it has yellowed a bit.
