Did someone make a cobra on an Austin Healey frame??
Was there a replica manufacturer that made this kind of kit or is this a one off???

Never heard of a manufactuer doing a Cobra with a Healey body.
Historical note: Shelby did consult with Donald Healey about using that car (AH 3000 series) for his Cobra project, but they never cut a deal and Shelby kept looking. In my opinion the Healey would have been a very poor choice with it's antiquated suspension being a major problem that would have been difficult to overcome. While the AC had it's share of suspension problems as well, it was far superior to the Healey. Of course Shelby talked to a LOT of manufacturers duing his 'hunt' for the right CAR and ENGINE combination to complete his vision. At some point he also wanted to utilitze an Oldsmobile engine, again, a very poor choice because of their extreme weight in the early 60's. I've seen a couple of Austin Healeys with GM V8 conversions and they share one common trate, they can't 'turn' for squat, good for a straight line and thats about it! |
Healey Chevys where popular back in the day. Using a AH frame is no pedigree. If thats the case, like Excaliber said ,this car should be called a "Squirrel" rather than a Cobra. Also bragging about the registration being an AH is slippery. The law says it should be retitled when rebodied.
Car looks more like a Kellison or clone to me. I suggested a couple of BACC guys check it out , just out of curiosity. |
There was a kit back in the sixties called a Chevealy. I know, I had one. Right hand drive with a small block Ford and top loader. Kind of on the heavy side but still a lot of fun. Scott
