What Engine To Rise Up The Front Wheel?
 
how many BHP (and LBS-FT of torque) are required to make an average 2000/2200 lbs cobra replica rise up the front wheel accelerating in the first gear?:eek:
(i suppose the cobra that can do that do it only in first gear...or am i wrong?)

Traction would be the more important factor in raising the front wheels. You would need sticky tires and a drive train that can handle the added traction demands.

And you would need the suspension set up to transfer the weight that far back.

Just like road racing, it's more than just a powerfull engine. You need the whole package.

A 24" length of railroad rail in the very back of the trunk would probably do wonders in getting the front end up!

As powerful a small block as you can get. A full tank of gas or lots of ballast in the back, and very very sticky tires. -John

so suspension, sticky tires, gas tank full...and 400/500 hp could be enough to rise the front? :eek:
i was thinking around 700/800 hp..:rolleyes:

I guess one question I would have, is why do it?

The odds are pretty good that when it comes down you will have some damage. Could be minimal, or it could be total.

Generally it's not an indication of speed, power, or quickness. Ever watch the NHRA Pro Stocker's? If they do more than just barely lift the front wheels, it's an indication that their chassis set up is no good.

I figure with my large drag radials and a new clutch (with blowproof bellhousing), I'm 1/2 way there already. Would need to add a Traction Lok 3rd member with hardened 32 spline half-shafts. Then boil the MTs and a 5 grand launch would get both front tires airborne ever so briefly. If I'm lucky, I haven't broken anything. Could probably do this for anywhere from one to 3-4 tries before something slips (clutch) and/or snaps (half-shafts or driveshaft). Again, if I'm fortunate. :LOL:

Which gets back to the previous question...why do it? :D

The Mustang guys lift fronts all the time at drags, and they are heavier than our cars.

Cobras were built to win road races. You can't do that with your front end up in the air. But it looks impressive, as does smoke billowing off your frying tires. Whoop de doo! :JEKYLHYDE Rich

That's because the mustang guys have their suspensions set up to drag race. It's all about weight transfer! YOu could probably get a small amount of tire hang from a stock 302 in a cobra with the perfect suspension and good traction.
